I would say yes.You can check with your vet on this but i do know that dogs take the very same medications that people take....I had a dog that was like this, and he had to have some surgery,so the vet gave me medication to give him to calm him down while he was sick because he did not want him being hiper during his illness, and it worked...It was probably as you said something like benadyrl...Dogs are animal but the same diseases that can affect a human can also affect a dog...To me its not a matter of is there medication, because i know that there is,BUT will your vet give it to you? thats going to be the question..I really understand about a hiper dog, they just wear you out...so i really am hoping you can get a vet that will give you something.Good luck to you....

Yeah, the boxer/boston terrier combination is going to be a high energy dog. It probably needs execise - at least an hour worth a day. It needs to be walked and it would be a bonus if it could get some off leash running.
If you can't give it that much exercise, you might think about finding a new home for it. Boston terriers are great companions and don't need a tremendous amount of exercise, but a boxer can be a handful. This is one negative about mixed breeds - it's hard to know which breeds tendencies that they'll have.

Is he neutered? I have a JR too, and she was crazy hyper. It got better after I had her spayed. You have to exercise these dogs A LOT. I can't say it enough. You need to have toys for him to play with, a good size yard for him to run freely in, and some obedience training. I had to literally keep a playpen in my living room the first year so I could put my dog in time out when she was getting out of hand. JR's are also VERY territorial, and if they think another animal is stepping on their toes they will react. They are awesome dogs once you get the hyperactivity under control. They are playful, loving, smart, and very alert watch dogs. I would really recommend some training, maybe at PetSmart or something. Get him used to a leash, and be sure to get him neutered. Good luck!!

I agree with Kristina. Your concern seems to be more with your new puppy which bodes ill for your older dog. Bostons need extra attention; I have one and when she wants something, I do it whether it be a walk or play, etc, that is the nature of the breed. NEVER drug a dog for YOUR convenience; that is just plain abuse. "On those days when we need him to be more calm?" Wow. He is a healthy playful affectionate doggy and you want to dope him up so you won't have to give him the attention he needs. Do yourself and the dog a huge favor. take him to a no-kill animal rescue and put him up for adoption. You are not able to care for him, you are not fit and you don't deserve him. He deserves a loving home where he will get all the attention he needs and not be drugged all the time. Even once is too many. If I knew where you lived I would report you to Animal Control.

Try obedience work. Mental and physical exercise are important for all dogs. Training will do you all some good. Age is also an important factor. You don't say how old the first dog is or how long you've had him, etc.

You should be able to get sedatives from the vet. And considering that terriers are prone to be a bit hyper, you might want to until the dog is trained.
Good luck!

It's not fair to the dog to start pumping meds into him because he is full of energy.
Walking him obviously isn't enough. Try taking him to the dog park where he can RUN and play with other dogs to tire him out.

If the dog is a virgin all he needs is a girl dog. If not I don't know. Maybe he needs to be a yard dog.
