Iraq has been an aggressor in the Middle East for generations and had been supporting terror activities and harboring international terrorists . . .
In 1991, Iraq culminated it's nefarious deeds by invading Kuwait and part of Saudi Arabia in a bloody invasion of those countries, only to be stopped and then defeated by USA forces with the help of several other nations . . . .
That 'Police Action' was sanctioned by the United Nations and there was no US declaration of war by our congress so, when the Iraqi forces were routed out of Kuwait, only a ceasefire agreement was entered into by Saddam with very harsh conditions imposed on Iraq . . . The conditions required Iraq to refrain from all aggressive military activities and submit to strict inspections and limitations by the United Nations . . .
Saddam violated every part of the agreement, attacking and killing thousands of Shiites in the South of Iraq and Kurdish people in the North . . He continued to have his forces fire missiles at reconnaissance aircraft that flew over Iraq and tried to rebuild his weapons programs, building new missiles and making deals with corrupt politicians in France, Germany, China, North Korea and Russia to get new arms and parts in violation of the agreement . .
Saddam used the "OIL for FOOD" program that was set up by the UN to pay for weapons and components rather than rebuild the infrastructure of Iraq as he agreed to do . . . The people of Iraq were not his concern other than as pawns for his ambitions . . .
When the US Congress declared open war on Terrorists and the nations that harbor and support them, Afghanistan and Iraq were the primary concerns because they were the two most active nations in supporting and engendering terrorism. . . .
President Bush acted on the Congress' declaration and first invaded and overthrew the Taliban in Afghanistan and then Invaded and overthrew the Dictatorship of Saddam Hussein in Iraq . . .
Now the rebuilding and pacification phase of those wars is underway and that difficult task is being hampered by the same people who supported and voted for them because of partisan political ambitions . . . Rather than join together to accomplish a common good, political divisiveness and media hype are confusing and interfering with the accomplishment of a more peaceful future for the world . .
It's sad that the petty political ambitions of the few have created so much turmoil and turned so many away from the path . . . President Bush, to his credit, has stood firm in his quest to resolve the problems of pacification in that part of the world, even in the face of the political frenzy of his opponents . .
Good Luck !

You appear to excuse Congress for their actions that led to war in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. They didn't simply transfer power to the current President, but future ones as well. If we are to believe that Bush used the same intelligence that was gathered under the Clinton administration, does not the some culpability lie with the Clintons? And why would there not be?president Clinton himself evidently believed the intelligence his administration had received. To ask why Bush started that war rather than Clinton is a question you should ask yourself. The answer is fairly simple.Clinton was and still is more talk than action. His record as Commander-In-Chief is miserable. How many years did our military spend in Bosnia?I don't recall them having any WMD's there, yet we still sent our troops. Was there any outcome?what about Somalia? You of course know the true story behind the Black Hawk Down incident. And the outcome there?Somali pirates terrorizing the region. Thanks for the turn tail and run there,Mr.President.And yet, here we are with another President(Obama) who has yet to fulfill his promise of removing the troops from the unpopular wars while we still focus on our dislike for the past President. You can't rewrite history to suit your opinions and blaming Bush for using what is now considered to be,by some, false intelligence is something of revisionist.Blame your Congress for giving a President the authority to do something that they loathe to do,knowing exactly what the decision and outcome will be.Now exactly which facts have been changed to suit your purpose?

President Bush is a great man and a great President. What about attacking Clinton, and his stand-by tactics while hundreds of thousands of Kurdish men, women, and children were gassed & tortured in Iraq? At least President Bush won't sit on his hands while the world gets away with murder!

Fact - his family wealth comes primarily from oil
Fact - his father supported Saddam Hussein as vice president, and supplied him with training and weapons in his war against Iran
Fact - his father did nothing after Saddam dumped chemical weapons on his own people in 1988.
Fact - it was only after Iraq invaded Kuwait, and threatened Saudi Arabia (the U.S. primary supplier of oil, and a country which held many of the Senior Bush's oil contacts) that Saddam was declared an enemy of the state by Bush Senior.
Fact - the Bush administration is made up of a lot of oil cronies - VP Cheney, former CEO of Haliburton (an oil company that has profited billions of dollars from receiving the majority of Iraqi War contracts); Condoleeza Rice - former member of Chevron Oil board of directors; EPA Administrator Christine Whitman has between $55,000 and $125,000 interest in Texas oil wells; Andrew Clark, former lobyist for GM Motor company - just to name a few.
Fact - in 2001, after we had been attacked, records show that we imported 1.2 million barrels of oil from Iraq.
Fact - there was an assasination plot to kill Bush Senior by Saddam Hussein.
Fact - Iraq is estimated to have the second largest reserve of oil of any nation in the world.
Fact - The number of troops that are dedicated to Afghanistan (a nation that openly supported terrorist groups, and help terrorist training camps - which trained the terrorists that perpetrated 9/11) is a fraction of the number in Iraq.
Fact - Iraq was not stockpiling WMDs. Although they had them and used them - we did not take action to stop them until after they invaded our oil allies.
Fact - Iraq did not support Al Queada. His own administration files show that he opposed terrorist groups because their idealogoy threatened his rule.
Fact - When an ambassador tried to raise objections to the intel that stated that Iraq was stockpiling WMDs, and trying to develop nuclear weapons - his CIA wife was publicly outed in opposition to security conventions.
Fact - George Bush has ties to the Bin Laden family, through his oil contacts.
Fact - George Bush has stated that oil is a matter of national security - yet his policies have promoted the use of oil, and have not been half as enthusiastic about finding new enegry sources. Ex - in 2003 there was a $4000 tax deduction for buying an electric or hybrid car, and yet at the same time there was up to a $100,000 deduction to buy a 6000 lb or bigger vehicle.
Fact - all of the intel that precluded us invading Iraq turned out to be at best half ******, and at worst completely cooked up.
Fact - part of the Bush's plan is to make a permanent base in Iraq for our troops.
Fact - one of the first priorities of our ground troops during the initial invasion was securing and protecting the oil fields. I am ex-military and a lot of my friends were in the initial invasion. They can attest to that.
Fact - during WWII our priority was to destroy infrastructure - not protect it.
Fact - our troops are trained to fight battles and win wars - not police a nations citizens.
Fact - we have now lost more troops in Iraq than the number of citizens we lost during 9/11.
Fact - Central African nations have muslim fundamentalists, genocide, WMDs, and have had terrorist attacks on U.S. Embasys. What they don't have is oil. Where are our troops dedicated?
Fact - South Korea has publicly threatened the use of WMDs, and is known to have them. What they don't have is oil. Where are our troops dedicated.
Opinion - our administration had a deep conflict of interest going into Iraq. The only reason we are there is because they have oil.
