I've heard lots of people say, "I'd rather believe and be wrong, than not believe and suffer in hell." If you ask me, that's believing out of fear, which isn't really believing at all.

People do not believe in God and Jesus because they are afraid. First you should understand that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. It is through the Holy Ghost and the word of God that we believe. If it wasn't for the word of God then many of us would be in the same boat as you are. I feel that there is a lack of faith in your life. Seek God for the Holy Ghost and with it you are able to understand far pass your mind set. It is hard to tell someone who is a unbeliever that they should pray so I tell you that unless you are born again you can not go to heaven. Born of both the water and the spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.

I think there are. But chances are you'll never find someone that will admit it.
Although, the argument, of 'I'd rather believe in it than go to hell' is just that, and argumentative answer to someone who says 'what if you are wrong, and there is no God?'
I think fear of hell or what ever has kept people from straying from their belief.

i think thats pretty accurate. Afraid of the possibility that he does exist. Also, afraid of life without the possibility that he does exist. This world can be a very lonely place, he fills the void. The life can be difficult, he can be a guide. This life can be tragic, he can comfort....

but really, he, is in us, because he is us, we created him, when we turn to him for comfort, we are turning inwords..it does seem that religious people tap a part of themselves that others dont...but its not a god...

That makes alot of sense. If you're told something enough times...like....you'll suffer for all eternity in a lake of fire, if you don't accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior....you'll start to believe it..and take measures to prevent that suffering...

There are even those who believe "just in case". You know...the...."I'm not sure if there is a God...but I'll believe just in case there is...that way when I die, I won't go to hell..."

It all boils down to scare tactics.

Yes, this is wrong...if it isn't because of the truth, and love..for them to be able to make their own decision..this is wrong... i don't use fear tactics.. and things of this nature to force persons into something just to make the "numbers" this is mis-leading them, and usually winds up in disaster..what we teach and preach is supposed to be "good news" happy news, with understanding to the listener so they may make a quality decision for "life!" but, this is how i personally feel on this issue...many may not agree with me.. :)

Yup! Fear and shock tactics are an essential part of the indoctrination process. They force the line between knowledge and belief to become blurred allowing what would normally be considered nonsensical bullshit to be considered fact.

I'm sure some do. But not all. Some of us just did our research, and God revealed Himself to us.

I guess you can say that's my reason... I could not imagine my life without Him in it. I am most certainly God-fearing... in every context of the saying!

Yes, I've seen that firsthand. I've seen people who were doubting think about their family, their church, and the "consequences" of disbelief, and immediately shake off their doubt.
