Not stupid at all...I have a neighbor that has what they call a "barn cat"...I didn't know that it belonged to anyone for about 3 months because it was so skinny and seemed to come from all different directions. Whenever I would go out to my car in the morning he would come running and I would open the garage so he could eat and hang out with my cat. He still comes over....guess he's adopted us. Being nice to animals is never stupid....don't ever doubt that. :)

Its not stupid, quite frankly its very nice and kind. Just a couple of tips from experience, if you actually have to use a live trap to catch the cat, and not simply open the door and let it in, its a semi feral and you should be a little cautions.

Set up a game plan before you set up a trap, such as calling a vet or animal clinic that can spay/neuter kitty, test and have shots Just because you trap the cat and bring it into your house, doesn't mean it will acclimate quickly. It will more likely freak out, possible hurt itself trying to escape out of your house, or hide somewhere out of reach. Then it will be EXTREMELY hard to trap again.

So my BIG tip of advice is, if the cat has to be trapped, DO NOT let it out until it was been to the vets. Good luck and kudos for your concern and care this kitty

Why on earth would a feeding station be stupid? A lot of people keep dry food available for strays (AND a water bowl, that's very important too) in case they can't find enough on their own to eat. It's not expensive, it doesn't draw rats (the cats get rid of those!) and it benefits the cats.

I look at it as maintaining the ones in the area to keep them healthy enough to fight off infection and problems.

I don't think it is stupid at all, very kind thing to do.
I would trap it and try to find a inexpensive neuter and shot clinic. Sometimes rescues will help with that, especially if you are going to keep the cat.

if you want the cat out of there, call the spca first. some states dont allow you to trap animals of any kind without a permit. if you have to wait for them to come and get it it wouldnt hurt to feed it. one good thing about out side cats is they keep rodent and snake populations down. so you may want to consider keeping it. rabies shots arent that expensive and food isnt either.

If its hungry - feed it, it's the good thing to do. So many people abuse animals these days, it's nice to hear of a person actually helping strays!

KUDOS to you!!

if it looks well fed then you should just leave it but if it looks under fed then put out food it may be lost so you should put out ad's in your local newspaper or on telephone posts
