This medicine is an anti-infective used to treat infections.
Sorry, but why dont you read the labels? Lol. And call your pharmacist. He or she will tell you what you should do. And they can also tell you how much is too much:
This is what the wallgreens label would tell you about your drug:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and seizures.
If you are experiencing any of these you should definelty go to an ER.
But here is what I am telling you: Don't rely on yahoo answers to tell you what to do. Call the number on the pharmacyt drug label- ask to speak to the pharmacist. Tell them you took two when you were sposed to take one and ask if its ok to just continue the normal directions the doctor prescribed.
Pharmacists get questions like that all of the time.

As an antibiotic it shouldn't be overly dangerous to have doubled the dose. You may have worse side effects, such as nausea from it.
However, I am by no means an expert. Consult your doctor's office, your pharmacist or your local poison control line for dependable information on the dangers and/or any preventative measures you should take.
Please be more careful in the future and I hope you feel better soon.

In the US, the best way to answer this question quickly is to call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. They're staffed 24/7 and typically answer within a minute or less. Good luck!

Metronidazole (otherwise known as Flagyl) is a broad spectrum drug used to treat many various illnesses, and is particularly effective against protazoan diseases. If you only took that one dose too many, just skip the next dose and then resume your regular sdhedule doses thereafter. Don't lose sleep over it. Drink plenty of fluids. Tell your doctor next time you see him or her.
And the poison control answer really deserves a best answer as its the right answer 100% of the time :)

If your dosage is 500mg every 8 hrs you should be ok, perhaps you will be nauseous but maybe leave it an extra 2 hours before your next dose and then gradually get the dosage times back to normal.
It is actually an antimicrobial drug rather than antibiotic.

If you double dost on your medication, you may want to consult your docter who prescribed it to you. Ask him if it is safe to just take your regular does tomorrow or hold off on it. Be safe! ^.^
