My best friend got married recently and she was trying to save money on things, She does not have a church home in this area and it cost a lot to get someone to perform a wedding, So i became Ordained through Universal Life Church so i could perform the ceremony, now i am thinking about other people who can't afford big church weddings or don't have church homes and they don't want to get married in a court house, am i wrong to perform small ceremonies? I am not offering counseling or anything, I just want to provide afforadable services for people who don't have another choice other than Court house.

There is nothing "wrong" with what you are doing. I would have simply gotten permission from the Court House to get married then to get "ordained" from some offbeat organization.

Many Churches however, perform weddings for free, especially if the couple has a location to be married.

I personally wanted a person ordained by God and not just man at my ceremony. But I wouldn't have a problem if someone else got married by a lay person instead of a judge. Christians get married at Courthouses all the time and that would spiritually be the same thing.

I don't know what the Universal Life Church is, but I don't think there is anything wrong with what you are doing, as long as the marriages you perform are legal.

I think it is big hearted of you that you want to perform wedding ceremonies for those that cannot afford it.

If you're ordained, I see nothing wrong with it. I think it's very sweet of you to do something like that.

I think it is a great idea. Maybe you could perform wedding ceremonies for gay couples too so they could donate their money to fight the current legislation. I think it is a beautiful sentiment.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. In fact BLESS YOU. My husband and I had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get married.
