making only 9 dollars an hour.... you wont have to may very much child support.... of course it is different in different states. im in indiana and my sons father gets paid 9 dollars an hour and works 40 hours a week.... he is suppose to pay only 45 dollars a week. but has to pay 65 because he is behind on child support.

Insist your step daughter and family start contributing to the household income immediately. If they don't, find yourself a cheaper place to live (my mortgage payment on a 4 bedroom house is less than $1400 a month). Get rid of the cable, internet and cell phones. If you really don't feel you can do without the phones, switch to a cheaper plan like Cricket or similar that's $40 a month (even $80 a month for two phones is half of what you are currently paying). If all your wife can get for work is a part time job at McDonald's making less than $500 a month-SHE SHOULD TAKE IT! I can't believe out of four adults you are the only one working a full time job. Bankruptcy will not do anything for the student loan debt or child support, and I don't think it will do anything toward the 401k loan either. So really all you're looking at there is the credit card debt and possibly the former landlord. Your take home pay isn't going to change. Taxes and health insurance are not going to go down, and the child support will continue to come out. You have to figure out how to live on what you have left over or get the other people in your household contributing.

Child support doesn't care about the bills you have. You can go to the child support enforcement website for your state and they have a thing where you can calculate about how much you will pay. If you only have one child it is generally about 24% of your income.

Also wanted to add that if your child support ends up only being 160 a month then you need to get a second job. Thats only like 5 bucks a day for your kid! Can you live on 5 bucks a day? Get an extra job and don't make anymore kids.

So Mister P are you giving everyone who told you the truth a thumbs down? I only see a thumbs up for someone who somewhat sympathizes with you. You are just trying to pay the lowest amount you can for your kid, you aren't even working full time. Get off your lazy butt and support your kid!

One thing you need to know....Judges and Attorney Generals don't care what else you have to pay other than the child. I make $1460 gross a month and I'm paying $200.00 out of every check for Child Support. I get paid on the 15th and the last day of the month so I end up paying $400.00 a month for my son. Take it I make a little more than you do, it also depends on the state that you're in. I'm in TX and it's true what they say...everything is big in TX including the Child Support Payment.

Child support is dependent on the state formula. It is based on both the number of children involved and sometimes the income of one or both parents along with sometimes healthcare thrown into the mix. In some states, they do take into consideration your bills, but there are states and judges who only care about the child support being paid. My friend once had a magistrate tell her ex this in court. My best advice is to get in contact with the local child support office. Typically, it takes time for it to move through the system, and it can vary depending on the location. I will include some free links on child support.

You should be able to find your states child support office online. They usually have a child support calculator.
Get ready though - they wont care how many bills you have. More than likely you will have to pay what the calculator shows or pretty close to it.

Search for "your state" child support office and it should pull it.

Good Luck!

If u r working ON the books u should b paying 17% of whatever u r bringing home. ei- $1200 x 17%= $204.00 per month. Unless u owed from before then the court will increased ur payments.
By the way, y r u ONLY working 30 per week when u have all these expenses? (morgage, utilies, kids, car)
PS: This amount doesn't reflects the EXTRA $160 bucks per month that u don't report 2 the authorities.
