Well it depends on what he has been charged with Assault alone has various different charges and you really need to find out what he has been charged with and under what section.
It also depends on how the judge viewsthe case and how well the cps present the evidence, or your solicitor,
The best people to ask is the police officer in charge of the case but even then it is only a guide.

He could actually and probably will (deservedly so) get prison for hitting you.
The police take men bashing women and the other way around much more seriously these days than they ever used to.
Also. If you suddenly decide that because of this you dont wish to go ahead, the police are now in a position to take the case to court now without your permission or action.
Men who bash women are not men, they are insecure bullies and deserve all they get. Far too many get away with it, and end up murdering or seriously injuring their partners/spouses
Unfortunately it goes on in all sorts of walks of lives, and even men get battered too.
There was actually on Jeremy Kyle the other day, a man whose partner of only a couple of months suspected him of cheating. She said he was addicted to prostitutes. She apparently poured boiling water from a still switched on kettle over his private parts and blacked both his eyes, which were still very badly bruised after months.
Jeremy Kyle MADE him go to hospital STRAIGHT from the show...and told her to stay out of it and not give him any grief for looking into medical help for his injuries.
There is much help out there now too.
If he persists in this behaviour, GET OUT quickly.
DO NOT become another statistic

Offences involving domestic violence can attract a larger sentence than non-domestic related cases, and quite rightly so. The chances are that he will not receive a custodial sentence if he has not been in trouble before, especially if he pleads guilty at the first opportunity. On a separate point, I hope you have ditched him if he's committing that sort of criminal offence against you. People like him only tend to escalate the violence they offer to partners, it won't stop him.

There are too many variables to guess with the lack of information provided. The prosecutors office should be able to fill you in with the details such as possible sentence etc.
I can only hope that it is long enough for you to realize that anyone that hits you should no longer be your partner.

I think it depends on the judge at the time, I know that my ex only ever got fines or community sentences when he was charged with assault against me.
I think the caution maybe taken into account, but am not totally sure.
Stay safe x
