Try propping the top of the nest box open using 2 pieces of paper towel that you have folded in half then repeating until it is about 1 inch thick. (I am assuming the nest box is on the inside of the cage.) After the mother starts spending a significant amount of time in the box, you can remove the prop.

If you see a very large glop of poop, you will know that your female has laid an egg or one is soon on the way. She will lay an egg every-other day and begin sitting on them right away, resulting in the eggs hatching every-other day. The average clutch size is 3-5 eggs.

It is a good thing they are looking in. If you haven't already, you need to add about 1 1/2 inches of pine shavings to the bottom of the box to prevent the eggs from breaking once they are laid!

To promote breeding, provide fresh green spinach leaves and uncooked Quaker Old Fashioned Oats.

If this is the first time the bird is seeing the box, he may be Little afraid of it...make sure you put shavings in the box for them to nest in...and if the birds are young, they may not even know how to breed yet...
I have even seen birds do it backwards the first couple of times...its pretty funny, but they will figure it out sooner or later.!!
