the reason i was asking if we need a passport is because my cousin lives in hi, and she heard they will be changing the rules and u will need a passport to travel into hi?

only non US citizens require a passport. she may be confused about returning to CONUS .. all US citizens do require a passport at any port of entry CONUS.

I live in hawaii and I'm pretty sure we're still apart of the US of A, though many hawaiians wish otherwise. If you are a citizen of the good 'ole United States, then you do not need a passport to come to hawaii

If your a US citizen you wont need a passport to go to Hawaii unless the US is planning on selling the Hawaiian Islands to another country.

Hawaii is a state in the United States. We don't need passports to travel state to state. I repeat, it is not a foreign country!

i have to agree. Hawaii IS part of the US. i went last year and do not have a passport. not even to re-enter. all you need is a drivers license or state approved id. hope this helps.

No, you don't need one, but you will need proof of US citizenship to re-enter the mainland. A driver's license will do, but a passport is the best document to use.
