Right. Where to start with this. ...

Me and this guy (lets call him 'D') have a problematic 'relationship'. D likes my best-friend but says he also likes me but he always messes with me. My best-friend (who incidently lives in Scotland) invited him for new year party and D told me he wanted to get with me, my said friend and all her friends.
He messes with me - he has done so many times in the past and I'm worried that he might mess with her as well.
I've already told him quite plainly that I don't want to talk to him again if he does this - obviously he wasn't too pleased. I'm worried that my bestfriend truely likes him but won't tell me because I have had problems with him and can't stand him.

I don't want to see him at this New Years Party in Scotland and she seems reluctant to tell him he cant come.

What do you think I should do?

Any help would be much appreciated! xxxxxxxx

Sadly things like this are avoided in good friends relationship because 1. Your friend sees how the relationship or your experience with him went. 2. Your friend respects you more then any other individaul out there. 3. Therefor she doesn't want to be with a guy who can't handle you, the person she respects. So usually this doesn't happen, he gets labeled as worthless, the friends-group moves on to bigger and better things. I'm seeing that maybe you and this friend don't exactly have the best relationship and you tend to believe that one or the other can do better in a giving circumstance. This is going to hurt the relatinoship, ether you see each others as equals and this guy as less. Or you see each other as unequal and this guy as being the "authority" on whose a better person, which doesn't make sense does it? SO talk to her about this, honestly, this guy sounds like a creep, you know he is a creep, save your friend some heartache.....
