why is it that 'a lot' of drivers feel that when entering a roundabout which has 2 lanes approaching it,2 lanes all the way around it,and 2 lanes exiting it,they all get into the right hand lane,and half way around,they feel they now need to swap to the left lane!!! to exit.why not stay in the same lane all t he way round the roundabout?? ive even seen some bigger roundabouts have even erected large yellow signs stating 'use both lanes' i drive for a living,and this puzzles me.

Positioning on roundabouts should be easy, but as you say some drivers seem to make a right pigs ear of it. I find its best to just keep an eye open for the idiots and avoid them.

One should drive according to the arrows on the road, if there are two lanes entering and leaving the roundabout then it's perfectly reasonable to remain in the right hand lane (which becomes the inside lane of the roundabout). As you're suggesting, though, it's not reasonable to switch to the left hand lane from the right when there's no need to and both lanes are designated as 'straight on'.
I think they either get confused or they don't want to get overtaken. Best policy is just to drive behind them and then drive past when they switch lanes.

Because the Highway Code states that if you are taking an exit which is to the right of where you enter the roundabout, you get in the right hand lane and move to the left as you approach your exit. You indicate right until the exit BEFORE yours, then indicate left.
If you are turning left or going straight on at a roundabout, you stay in the left all the way around. You indicate left at the exit before the one you are taking. So if yours is the first exit, you indicate left immediately.
You see - you're the one who's been wrong all these years!

It is more likely that some damn fool will enter the traffic from a lane you have just pased and will try to overtake on the inside jusy as you are in fact following the highway code about to leave the roundabout. Usualy but not always a young lad in a BMW which is too powerful for him

Speaking as a biker, I'm amazed when a driver knows that a roundabout has lanes, let alone which one to use, or when / how to signal, or take observations.

This happens at the one near my house. If I am in the right lane I can guarantee that some dopey idiot will cut straight over it from the left lane.

Good point-I also drive for a living and see the same thing as you all the time-maybe a tougher driving test would keep numptys like this off the roads or how about a return to "proper"policing instead of using cameras?
