they are no different from any other times of greed and neglect, war and famine. only now people are becoming aware that their actions upon the earth will cause repercussions. x

Proof? Of course not.
If you google "John Nelson Darby", you can learn about the man who is responsible for the modern day belief of the last days, as espoused by evangelical Christians. He lived in the mid-1800's. He is also directly responsible for the whole rapture theory. All of it based on nonsense.
If you read the Book of Revelation, Mathew Chapter 24-25, Ezekiel, Daniel, etc, and most biblical passages pertaining to the end of days, very little of it could be interpreted to events that may be occuring today. In fact, more of it can be shown to have already occurred.
In the Book of Revelation for example, John is writing to the 7 Churches of Asia, which no longer exist. The apocolyptic scenarios and symbolism he describes, fits the destruction of Rome and the end of ancient Jewish society in 70AD, far more than it translates into anything yet to come. The mark of the beast 666, translates from the greek and hebrew into the birth number for Nero Caesar.
Throughout human history their have been periods of time involving earthquakes, famines, terrible wars, etc, that anyone could easily misconstrue as the end of the world. Dozens of prophets have come and gone trying and failing to predict the end. Generally, those who preach this fear are using it as a tool to control the peasants and take their money. Nothing is different now.
Suffice to say, the world will come to an end someday. And it could very well end in a heap of apocolyptic mayhem. Still, there is no evidence or prophecy that should lead anyone with a clear thinking mind to believe it will happen in our lifetime in the manner evangelical Christians believe.
And just to clear things up, most of the world's Christians do not believe in the rapture and end of the world theory the evangelicals are preaching. This includes all catholics and most traditional protestants.

Basically, Jerusalem will be at war, "nation will rise against nation," there will be great earthquakes and natural disasters(tsunamis and such), christians will be looked down upon(which they are), and many many more. just search in the Bible and you'll find your answer.
"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. Luke 21:20
6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:6-14
19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time.
Matthew 24:19-25
36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
Matthew 24:36-42
it's not at all hard to understand. you take the Bible as it is. don't read too much into it.
GOD BLESS US ALL!!

To quote the Boy Scout handbook, "Be prepared"
Some of the prophecies of the last days are the state of Israel, the rise of Russia in the north. The animosity of so much of the world toward Israel. The rapid pace at which the people of the world can hear the word of God, which means that someday soon, everyone will have been given the choice to pick sides, so to speak.
So when does the second coming occur? Who knows. But live you life every minute like it could happen tomorrow, at 3:14 p.m.

Take a look around you at the world we've come to know.
The book of revelations is a self fulfilling prophecy.
The 'Christian Right' are hell bent on bringing all that is written to fruition.
They are known as 'End Timers' and there are over 10 Million of them in the USA alone.
They are in positions of power, they are State Governors...in the Congress and in the Senate.
These people are in a position to bring 'Judgement Day' ever closer.
All the trouble, strife and conflict in the world today has nothing to do with 'God' or 'Religion'...it is all to do with mortal man...and the beliefs of the Christian Right.
If you are not of the Christian Right...or you do not believe in the Christian Right...or do not believe in the bible the way the Christian Right do..
Then you are an Unbeliever in the bible (be you Christian, muslim or Atheist) and you will burn in hell.
BEWARE THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT.
Edit..
Stranger in the Night.
SMALL group of fundamentalists..???
There are MILLIONS of them..and in positions of power...and not just in the United States.
See my post above.

Only God knows when are the last days. But the Bible says that things will happen, and most of the things are happening now. So some think it will happen soon.
The Bible is the proof. Read it! No one understands the last days, but God.

Bible quotes is all they have, that is their 'proof' and justification for their whole way of life, just about. I'd rather believe in Harry Potter, at least he had a cool broom stick.
I'm sure that, when probed deeply, Christians will try to tell you something along the lines of 'last days' being some undefined period of time that nobody but God can know.

I have been taught that the last days actually started when Jesus ascended. Every generation has reason to think they are living in the very last days and will be alive when Jesus comes back, and I understand that many prophecies concerning the nation of Israel have been coming true. However, Jesus said he will come like a thief in the night and we must be always ready.

The Bible points out the sign of the end of this system of things clearly...
Matthew 24: 6 - - YOU are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that YOU are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet.
7 “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. 8 All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress.
I am one of Jehovahs witnesses and here is a article title " What are "the last days". and it explains this subject more in detail. Hope this helps! :)

If you don't want scriptures as proof, then you don't want our kind of evidence. As Christians, we determine our fundamentals based from the word of God, including determining the "last days" as described throughout the bible. So, in lamens terms instead of quotes, the bible does speak of intense natural disasters, society embracing sexual perversions, the out of control turmoil in the Middle East, especially countries turning against Israel. All these, and more, are listed in the prophetic books of the Old Testament, as well as the Gospels and Revelation in the New Testament. As Christians, that is what we base all of our beliefs, the Word of God.

There are prophecies in the Bible that many believe are being fulfilled today: the reestablishment of Israel as a nation, the increase in knowledge and travel, the spread of immorality, the increased mockery of God, attempts to bring about world peace, attempts to centralize world government, increases in natural disasters, wars, famines and diseases.
These are signs that the last days are near. We cannot know the day or time of the return of Christ, but we can certainly see that the signs are clear.
