I know three people who have had it. All three lost a LOT of weight. One of them gained back all the weight almost as quickly as she lost it. All three have had health problems because of it--one a lot of problems. Two wouldn't do it again-one would. They all say their lives changed in major ways since the surgery, and it isn't all good--but there is nothing they can do about it now.
Just make sure you do lots of research on it first, study the pros & cons, and make sure you have a top-notch doctor. Above all, pray for direction. (((funnana)))

Yes, I had this surgery 12 yrs ago and lost 160 pounds the first year. Since that time Ive gained some back but still holding off over 100 pounds. It totally changed my life and I would do it again in a hearbeat.
I didnt have any health problems due to my weight but I'm sure they would have happened soon if I hadnt lost weight.
Alot of people don't understand that sometimes your body will just not cooperate as far as dieting goes. They always just think that you eat too much, which is not always the case. I ate far less than people in my family, which they would be quick to tell you, but I was the heaviest of all of them. I weighed almost 90 pounds going into first grade and it wasnt because my parents allowed me to eat alot of junk food. My body just didnt metabolize things the right way.
Of course there can be complications with the surgery as someone else mentioned, as there can be with any surgery, but so many of thes surgeries are done these days that they have it down to a fine art almost. I will say also that although I had the gastric bypass surgery, the lap band surgery is less invasive and easier to recover from with the same results.
So you do what is best for you, and what your doctor thinks is best for you. Good luck to you!

no ur not overweight and i wouldn't have surgery because something bad might happen. the best way would be just to go to the gym and work about 20 min. aday. once you go to the gym and it is part of your daily schedule workout longer. start out slow and work your way up, that way you don't over do it. but it is your choice, if you decide to do the surgery Good Luck!
and if you do the gastic surgery i would just read up on it
go to google and look it up
Hope everthing works out well!!!

No, but I have a friend that had one. She looks terrible, her hair is thin and her teeth are weak, yellow and unhealthy looking, and she has dizzy spells due to lack of food and nutrients. She is now too thin and excess fat is hanging everywhere. I do not want to scare you, but please make sure you get the gastric surgery that is reversible (my friend did not). Make sure you can get the excess fat taken care of and make sure you are getting the proper nutrients after the surgery. Always ask every question you can possibly think of before surgery. One last thing, wait another month, then ask yourself if you really need gastric surgery. Gastric surgery is a serious last resort kind of thing. Best wishes...
