the priest picks it up and places a napkin or kerchief over the place, so it can be properly cleaned up after mass. Yes, he eats the host, but the particles that may have mixed with dirt go into a special sink that does not connect to the regular plumbing. it goes straight to the earth.

That's like dropping Jesus.
Some of the more obvious changes in the revised General Instruction concern the Communion rite. Extraordinary ministers are no longer supposed to help break the bread or pour the cups for distribution. Communion under both species of bread and wine is strongly encouraged. The document also strengthens the long-standing insistence that Communion is to be shared from the altar of sacrifice rather than from the tabernacle. Obviously exceptions can be made if distributors run short of bread, but normally the Eucharist reserved in the tabernacle is intended for the sick and for other occasions where Communion may be distributed outside of Mass. During Mass all are supposed to receive the Lord’s Body and Blood from the actual celebration,

so that even by means of the signs Communion will stand out more clearly as a participation in the sacrifice actually being celebrated. (# 85)

Ah that was something i asked when i was in high school to the father in charge of the chapel ( i went to a catholic school).

First thing is that father or people that give Communion are adviced to use a thing called patels ( small tray) and put it under your chin to prevent crumbs and particles to fall, in case theres no patel usually they use ther free hand.
When it is dropped and hits the floor usually the person incharge of givin comunion cleans the floor whith a pice of cloth that is used to clean all the religeus comunion indumentary .
The cloth and all the indumentary is placed in a litle box, and when the cleaning have to be changed, they burn the old ones, and the ash is kept for ash wednesday.

in consecrated host Jesus Christ is present as flesh and blood. in order for none of the faith full to desecrated the fallen host, the priest will right away pick up all visible pieces and consume it. the spot is then marked with a cloth that a priest Carry's with him. after communion he washes the area with blessed water and after the mass it will be poured into the ground, somewhere no body can step on it. all reverence is shown for the host, for god himself is in all the broken ( parts) pieces. those who mock this practice will find out what it means to insult Jesus in holy communion. it is written in the bible, unless you eat his flesh and drink of his blood you will not come into his kingdom. only the priest is allowed to touch the consecrated host, for when he becomes a priest his hands a blessed for this purpose.

lol! I'm pretty sure the priest has to eat it cause it can't be wasted. like if there is left overs if someone counted the number of people wrong the priest still has to eat it. One time that happened at our church and the priest was munching on a bunch of left overs of the communion and wine. he made a joke about it later in the mass. it was funny.

All hell breaks loose, the priest gets excommunicated and then crucified as an example to other priests never to let communion hit the ground (it’s ok if they manage to seize it in midair). Catholics drop to their knees and lick it of the floor while praying aloud for absolution.
I can’t help it… I’ve got a very vivid imagination. In fact I’ve no idea… sorry… lol

From what I hear, the priest or communicant must pick up the host(s) and consume it as soon as possible. Pax et caritas.
