Yup! I got a wireless router and my PS3 comes with free WiFi and I am online everyday.

You can get one at any local computer or office supply store. It's easy to use but the price varies depending on your needs. Most stores have knowledgable sales staff that can assist you with the purchase.

Good luck...and if you see me playing Warhawk, team up or be destroyed!

Any router will allow you to play your PS3 on-line. However, if you want to go wireless, SOME of the PS3s have built in wireless (I think it's the 60gig and higher). You can buy a wireless router for $35-$40 at any electronics store, walmart, target, almost anywhere that has electronics. You can buy an Ethernet or USB gaming bridge if you have a PS3 without built in wireless but these cost more than the router ($60-$80).

They are easy to set up. Most come with wizards to walk you through it.

Make sure you get a router thats compatible with your Broadband type, (i.e. DSL for cable, ADSL for phone. Doublecheck with your provider if you're not sure)
Most are fairly straight forward to use and if you do have trouble setting it up, google PS3 with the router name and you'll usually come across a forum entry where someone's had a similar problem.

Yes, it'll allow you to play. Only 20GB version doesn't have wi-fi. Just get yourself a router with VPN support (in case your provider uses this technology).
