Matthew 12
11And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

God's law.
(John 15:12-13) This is my commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you. No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul in behalf of his friends.
(1 John 3:16) By this we have come to know love, because that one surrendered his soul for us; and we are under obligation to surrender our souls for our brothers.
(Luke 12:4) I say to you, my friends, Do not fear those who kill the body and after this are not able to do anything more.
(Luke 21:12-19) People will lay their hands upon you and persecute you, delivering YOU up to the synagogues and prisons, you being haled before kings and governors for the sake of my name. 13 It will turn out to you for a witness. 14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to rehearse beforehand how to make your defense, 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your opposers together will not be able to resist or dispute. 16 Moreover, you will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death; 17 and YOU will be objects of hatred by all people because of my name.
(Mark 13:9-13) People will deliver you up to local courts, and you will be beaten in synagogues and be put on the stand before governors and kings for my sake, for a witness to them. 10 Also, in all the nations the good news has to be preached first. 11 But when they are leading you along to deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand about what to speak; but whatever is given you in that hour, speak this, for you are not the ones speaking, but the holy spirit is. 12 Furthermore, brother will deliver brother over to death, and a father a child, and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death; 13 and you will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name.

Interesting question, to say the least.
Jesus was somewhat subtle in the approach, but in some ways, not so subtle.
He performed works of love and compassion, but on the sabbath. This outraged the religious people. The subtle point not picked up by so many is that the law becomes a hindrance eventually. One ends up never fulfilling the law because they are hung up on the letter.
One can either "keep" the law, thereby ignoring the Spirit, or fulfill the law, thereby ignoring the letter.

Healing someone on the Sabbath is not against the law of Moses.
The Messiah was against the Talmud, the Mishnah. He is NOT against the law.
As for which was more important, he went to the school of Hillel which was moreso for the spirit of the law which is ultimately love thy neighbor as you love yourself...
Really I don't think the Bible teaches either/or, I think it teaches both. Because "if you love me, keep my commandments". And "I come in my father's name".
So His father's commandments are also his commandments.
I feel that if people kept them properly they would not become a burden. Man thinks with a human mind and man makes God's laws bondage by ADDING to his law. Do not add -- that's in Deuteronomy.

Well He healed someone on the Sabbath which was against the law of Moses, so I would think life is more important to Him.
I think life over law would be more important to just about anyone, don’t you?

Christ gave us a new law when he fulfilled the Mosaic Law. This new law was and is very simple especially compared to the 600+ laws of the Mosaic Law.
The law consist of 2 laws:
Love God
Love your neighbor.
Love of the law was not in the equation, so my understanding would lead me to answer that life was more important than some man-driven set of rules, regulations, doctrinal edicts, or congregational bylaws.
If you love your neighbor (and Christ basically said all of us are each other's neighbors) including yourself you would do no harm to them, right? Who of us that love our mate would murder them, or hurt them with infidelity. Or who of us would pressure others to participate in an activity that would harm the other one? Who of us would force a child to suffer at our own hands? NONE IF WE LOVE GOD AND OUR NEIGHBOR and not some written codex or burdensome religious law.

Laws are made for regulating the human life so that they become a better human being.
Without life ,laws are use-less.

Lovely LIFE he preached. Said, "follow the Bible" as it was readymade. He opposed the law by Moses very diplomatically.
Stoning was a punishment by the masses. He could punish as he was pure, but he did not stone any one to death. He forgave on the Cross.

"Jesus said…Thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matt.22:37-40.
