Doesn't your selection of this section of "Answers" imply that being an Atheist is a Religion in itself and that you are a member of it? And if that holds true, aren't you arguing with yourself about a choice of your devotion and not if it actually founded in truth?

Are you kidding? I ask a question about a timing adjustment on a '62 Ford and some fundie will tell me to ask Jesus to guide me. You will note that the "S" in R&S stands for spirituality, of which religion has none of. No, atheism is no religion. To call it such is an insult to sanity.

I agree that until there is a designated atheist topic, where else can they go. I also think this is a good place for them to become informed about God and that they can and should clarify any misconceptions about their belief system. I am not intimidated by them because I agree with their antagonism toward religions and their blind followers. My faith is not in a religion but in Jesus Christ, with whom I have a relationship. Christianity is about a relationship with the living Savior not a religion. Besides, no truly objective, intelligent, thinking person really believes there is no God. The furthest one can honestly go is to be agnostic and question God's existence, but no one can prove He does not exist. No atheist has all the knowledge in the universe, therefore in the area of knowledge that is not known lies the possibility of God's existence. It is also obvious to any real thinking person that there is a design to the very universe itself and with design come intelligence. No one looks at a skyscraper and asks how many earthquakes and millions of years it took to make it, because it is obvious it had a designer. The skyscraper is simple compared to the universe and even simple compared to the human DNA. Not to believe in intelligent design takes more faith or selective blindness to the obvious truth. Just as there are physical laws that govern the universe so are there spiritual laws. True seekers will find them both.

i went and tried everything and now i know it's wrong and i don't do it because it's bad for me and my happiness. But now i don't judge others for the state they're in. I realize that we're all people and christian, buddhist, whatever is just a label you stick on your own forehead, maybe for social reasons, family etc. but in the end doesn't make you any closer to God than you would be without it. I also realized that to preach to people is pointless. People react to love no matter what the words are. It's only through cultivating the love and wellbeing of yourself and letting it overflow to others that we make some difference in the world. All the sermonizing about morality, accepting Jesus etc. is artificial. What is needed in this world is true openness and support of each other. But even if you take that as an idea it becomes stupid because people start thinking you have to accept murderers and child molesters. What i'm trying to say is that the problem was that religion is in everybodies heads. It's this abstract thing that governs us, but the world is not bounded by these ideas. They don't fit. The world is too complicated and amazing to fit into a book. We have to be masters of ourselves and stop hiding from life. Sacred texts are there to help us, not rule us. Oh yeah sorry, i shouldn't really be answering this because i'm not an atheist. Only a 'former christian'.

No it merely means I have an opinion on religion as it stands not only in history but in today's society. Nor is it the only section I go to - I can also be found in the humanities, genealogy, social sciences, books and music categories.. once in awhile cooking & relationships too.

Actually, I come here to educate religious people about the beliefs of atheism, which you are constantly getting wrong. If the "believers" on this site stopped making inocuous comments about atheists, then I would have no reason to be here. You are free to believe whatever you want about supernatural beings and the afterlife. But as someone who does not believe in those ideas, I feel compelled to set the record straight on the false information being floated around out there about me.

Actually I have studied many religions and am able to answer questions on these religions honestly and without attempting to slander the religion or convert the asker to my own.
As a Buddhist, i just answered a question on Thich Nhat Hahn. However, I have also answered questions on Catholicism, Martin Luther, the teachings of Jesus and evolution (asked by someone who assumed it was a religion, I guess).
Why do you assume I do not belong here?

Since I have other things to do right now, may I simply refer you to the answers to the other 48868 related questions?

Hopefully one will provide the answer you are looking for. Judging from the way your question is phrased I'd just look at the answers from Christians. Somehow I doubt those from atheists will satisfy you.

Buddhism is an atheist religion - where do you suggest they post their questions and answers?

I know it is surprising to you, but even irreligious atheists know something about religion and spirituality. The Y!A community deserves their input.

If atheists do not come to R&S to challenge the beliefs of theists, who will? What about theists challenging each other? Is it OK for Christians to challenge the beliefs of Pagans, but not atheists?

OH - the BEST reason for atheists to come here is that there is usually plenty of excuses to tie one on - like THIS question.

This section is open to all, to discuss issues of religious & spiritual beliefs. It is not limited to those who subscribe to a particular set of beliefs. Also, it is a very wrong assumption that people here who don't agree with popular religions are all atheists. The world is not so black & white.

I would say that there are many people who EVEN THOUGH they do not believe in ANY Deity still have a highly advanced Spirituality.

I say this because even though I am NOT an atheist, I have encountered this phenomenon
