That s an intesting question.
First thing I am about to do is have a permanent part-time job .
Currently I am studying at home for h.s.c.
Second thing is that I am about to pursue my accounting course .While working for a minimum hours 25-28.
While I am going to continue my studies at home (correspondence course)
And finally to complete my degree in University for c.a. or c.p.a.
I hate loans so I usually save aside some money for the course expenses . I live in Oztralia so theres a bit of advantage in here.
good luck !
oh yeah i have a young family as well and a wife.

An education will pay off in the long run. At one time, I would have said hard work would pay off, too. However, there is a greater shift toward jobs requiring either technical school or a college diploma in the past 10 or 15 years. A way to cut down on the amount of student loans is to attend a community college. There are college scholarships to help students pay for college. I will include some free resources to pay for college. Good luck!

Wasn't sure exactly what you are asking but...
If your question is whether you should go to college or work hard, I would have to say go to college. An education almost guarantees you a job. Even if you work hard, without an education, you will be struggling to find a good job.
If your question is should you get school loans or whether you should work hard to pay off tuition, books, etc. while your college, I would say go for the loan and work part-time so that you can at least pay the interest. If you're working hard and going to college at the same time, you will get burned out super quick and your grades will reflect your exhaustion.

Although the standard of living for a college graduate is generally better than a high school diploma alone, there was an article in the Seattle Times Sunday discussing this very topic. Here are excepts:
While the median high-school graduate age 25 and older earns about $26,000, the median college graduate age 25 and older earns about $42,000. That's an annual income premium of about $16,000, or around 60 percent.
According to the College Board, it takes 14 long years before the college grad's income, net of loan payments, starts to beat what the high-school grad earns. During all those 14 years, college doesn't pay. High school pays.
=============
Money aside, you will have many more opportunities in life with a college education than without one.

How about working hard to pay for college so you don't have to take out loans? I hate the idea that people have to borrow money for education - I wish more people would pay as they learn.

i agree with the above. Take out some loans go to school. Then work hard. It is really difficult to do anything or go anywhere with out a college degree. They say a college degree today is the equivalent of what a high school diploma was in the past.

Since this is the information age, you'll need to get an education to really get anywhere especially as you get older. I know it used to be that you could work your *** off and get ahead., but I think those days are largely gone.
I have an uncle that bucked the trend, but he 'befriended' an old dude without heirs and he got his life savings when the old guy passed on. The saying 'Work smarter not harder' seems to apply and will in the foreseeable future.

I think it's most important to find a balance within both. If you polarize those options it will be twice as hard when you have to make up for whichever was left behind.
