I'm sure that I have depersonalization disorder. I use to have panic attacks, where I couldn't breath, I got dizzy a lot, my chest tightened, etc. Now it's pretty much this hell-hole of a dream-like state. The bigger problem is that I know I need a therapist, but I can't ask for one. My mom knows I deal with this (I'm sixteen, btw.) When I first told her about it, she suggested a therapist, but I freaked out and said no. But now I think I really need one. I'm desperate. I need this to go away. How do I ask for a therapist though, when she has so much going on in her own life? I keep chickening out. What should I do? I keep crying and it keeps getting worse and worse, to where I don't remember what reality is. Please, please help.

I would love to see a therapist.I don't have any hang ups but I think its healthy to discuss your problems with an outsider. You know someone outside of the family with nothing to gain by their advise but just to help. Why would you freak upon your moms suggestion to see one.If your worried about your mom having enough to deal with(which is very loving of you may I say)Think of it this way,If you don't seek counseling you might become her main problem. You don't want that.Just take a deep breath and decide not to become her biggest problem. She will be relieved that you are getting the help you need.Good Luck sweetie,Your all right......

You should get a therapist, now. Go to your mom and tell her that you changed your mind. It will get worse, and once, it will get so bad that you don't want to live anymore and then comes suicide. that will be too bad from such a young girl. U are sixteen and that's an age where you are very mood-swinging, because of all the hormones. Most 12-18 year olds struggle with this problem once. It doesn't always has to be serious, but in your case, it IS serious. So get your *** off the computer, and go to your mom and tell her you need a therapist. Now.

I have suffered from depression your description sounds like you are existing but not really living life.

Your going through the motions without feeling anything? Therapy is a good option because it teaches that you are not alone with this problem.

The way you think and resolve is cognitive therapy and it teaches you also to know what type of person you are. Since you are so young I am saddened by the fact that you are going through this instead of enjoying the wonderful youth and time of your life.

You see therapy forces you to examine how you feel, it isn't important why you feel that way because you do, but most feelings are connected to thoughts.

Thoughts can be negative, positive, self inflicting (talking to yourself derogatively like: "oh I'm so stupid..and so on) pretty soon if you think negatively all the time you forget how to make a positive out of a negative.

Please go to your mother and tell her you wished you weren't so impulsive in your decision of "no therapy" and that you have reconsidered and wish to have it now. You are one of the most important things to your mother, the relief she will feel when she knows you are seeking and accepting help you need will greatly aleviate that one thing that is going on in the back of her mind all the time. I know I am a mother and just because you said no to therapy doesn't mean your mother has stopped thinking about ways to help you. good luck honey I'll pray for you its ok if you don't believe in prayer or God that doesn't matter. As God's children we are all connected he knows us all. God bless

You need to stop crying and tell your mom that you want the help you need to get. You wrote you are where you do not remember what reality is. That should be a big warning signal for you that you are in a very fragile state at this point. Your mom is going to come home one day and find you incoherent and not knowing who or where you are and in a state of complete psychosis. This would be devastating for her to find you like this, and you could possibly become a dangerous and actually harm yourself. Please help yourself to get the help you so desperately need.

Go up to her and say 'mom, the problem is getting worse, I would like to see a therapist now'.

Your mother is not naive. I'm sure she realizes that something is going on with you and would probably be extremely RELIEVED that you asked for help. She will probably also be glad that a professional will be helping her to make you better.

I have had panic attacks myself and they are very scary. The dream-like state is probably severe depression. Don't live your life like this.
