I guess when the government kills someone or when you kill someone in war. I think killing is killing though, and should never be done, not even as capitol punishment.

OK first we have to establish that we are not under the Law anymore, we are under grace. Now that that is behind us, the Ten Commandments say murder not kill. Next, this is the way things will be until Christ returns. Furthermore, The sin in this world is why people are going around murdering each other. The shootings that occur everyday is because of the sin nature of every person, Im not saying that every person is capable of killing someone. But in terms of the law, self defense is the only way a killing is justified. If you were attacked you or someone else could kill the attacker if necessary, if your life was in danger.

The question would have some relevance if the ten were in force, which they are not. In any event, the commandment is about murder, and not killing in general.

One could kill in self defense and be guiltless.

Murder, which the commandment addresses, has to do with killing someone as a result of hatred.

Committing Murder is condemned in the ten commandments as well as wanting your neighbors wife.
Capital punishment is acceptable and commanded in some cases in the old testament.
Annanias and Safira (spelling?) I think it was, correct me if I'm wrong, were put to death by the Holy Spirit in the New Testament in the Acts of the Apostles.
Governments are allowed to and should carry out sentences of death on some individuals. Not that this will serve them right but so that the rest of society will see and be careful of their own actions. Not to mention the need for justice for those who have lost loved ones to some unfortunately sick and twisted person.
Those who don't believe in God should not have a problem with this. Death to them is just forgetting you had once been alive. So what?

Killing is never OK.

Thou shalt not kill.

But wars are OK. At least just wars. Because just wars are necessary to protect our nation or innocent others who can't protect themself from the murderer. When a nation attacks us or a terrorist attacks us, we need to find out who they are & attack back. And that is what we are doing. I am one that believes that we have made the right decision in how we have come against terrorism. And the ones who are killing our military are the ones coming into Iraq to kill us & killing the innocent civilians in Iraq. We are wiser today than yesterday how to stop the terrorist enemy. And we kill or capture them. And they are killing less of us. And we are getting more of them.

And under the law of sin & death. If one murders someone they get the death sentence. In some US States, murderers get the death sentence. So? This would be lawful. I don't believe it is lawful to abort ones baby even if the law says the mother has a choice to do so. Because the fetus is real & alive. One has to kill it; Stop its life & he/she is an innocent life and also not threatening anyone elses rights or life.

The bible is full of contradictions, the commandments say not to kill but the bible also says eye for an eye. So I guess that if someone kills someone you love you can kill them. Also jesus forgives everyone so you can kill anybody then just ask him to forgive you.

When GOD **specifically** and unquestionably authorizes and commands a war to take place. As happened with Joshua vs. Jericho.

And in self-defense.

(Lest anyone be thinking about abortion, the ONLY human life that the Bible ever defends as people (vis-a-vis as property), have been BORN.)

“You heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ‘You must not murder; but whoever commits a murder will be accountable to the court of justice,’” said Jesus. “However, I say to you that everyone who continues wrathful with his brother will be accountable to the court of justice.” (Matthew 5:21, 22) Jesus here showed that the root of the problem of murder lies at a level deeper than the violent act itself. It is in the attitude that grows in the murderer’s heart. If people did not allow a feeling of resentment or anger to build up, premeditated violence would disappear. How much bloodshed would be avoided if this teaching was applied!

Notice how Jesus gets to the bottom of another problem that causes a great deal of heartache. He told the crowd: “You heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone that keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If, now, that right eye of yours is making you stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you.” (Matthew 5:27-29) Jesus taught that the problem goes deeper than the immoral behavior itself. It is in what precedes it—immoral desires. If a person refuses to dwell on improper longings and ‘tears them out’ of his mind, then he will overcome the potential problem of immoral behavior.

I believe that one very viable example of justifiable killing would be anytime that it's done in self-defense. If you, or a loved one, are in imminent danger of losing your life or being hurt by another...then, pull out the shotgun, knife, or whatever else you have on hand and take them out first.

I'm pretty sure God wouldn't say..."Geez...you shoulda' let them kill you first."

Good Question!

ONLY in the case of self-defence: to defend your life (NOT your property) or someone else's life or virtue (defend yourself or someone from rape. Also: if a woman is dying during childbirth and the only way to save her is to let the child die this is morally permissible. ONLY in these cases is killing morally justifiable.

Thou shalt not commit Murder... is the commandment. Like murder your brother in law or your wife.

Killing...God instructed man to do when protecting the people of Israel and did Himself often, when people were disobedient.
