Yes, that sounds like she's in heat. Five months is a little on the young side though, I think. A cat can stay in heat for up to a week at a time and will go into heat every few weeks or every time she spends time around a male, until she gets pregnant or spayed. Cost varies, depending on location. Where I live (aka The Middle of Nowhere) a spay cost about $100, including pain medication and anesthetic. Cats can be spayed while in heat also, btw, but usually vets charge more for the operation then.

Yes, it's normal. Our tortie would be in heat for about 2 weeks, then a week or so later would she'd be back in heat (when I'd called to make the spay appointment, there was a 5-week wait).

I have a 12 year old and she doesn't always go into heat where she makes all the noises to let you know, but when she does it does sometimes last more than a week. And sometimes it will happen every other week.

Why hasn't she been spayed yet?
FYI, cats can get pregnant even if they are not in heat. They are called opportunity breeders, meaning anytime they mate they can get pregnant.

Get her spayed and you won't have to worry about it.
