I am thinking of getting a PC or a PS3 but can't decide which one would be the best buy. I have about 800.00 to spend on either one. I already have a PC but it is a little outdated (Pentium 4 2.66ghz, 1 gig of ram and a 80 gig HD). I also already have a PS2. I want both but I just can't make up my mind. Any Advice?

If you want to use your PC only for next-gen games, it's better to keep your old PC and to buy PS3, but if you want to use your computer for music making, graphics producing - get PC. If you want PC, that will run games with the same quality as PS3 - it'll cost you around 1500-2000$ - without monitor.

Couple of other options to consider, since the PS3 is only $500 right now, you could use the other $300 to upgrade your current PC. The upgrades you'd be looking at would be Motherboard/CPU, RAM, and maybe video card. Depending on your choices you could come in around $300.
The other option is install another OS (Linux) on your PS3 after buy it and use that as your computer as well. Keep in mind the PS3 is essentially a computer, and Sony has made it friendly to Install a boot loader and another OS on the machine without problems. In fact, there is a Linux distro for it.
You could use wireless keyboard and mouse (bluetooth), or if you have a wireless/usb keyboard and mouse you could use that.
The PS3 can always accept a different (larger) hard drive too, so you could put in a 120GB (or larger) hard drive if you wanted to.
Something to think about that maybe you were unaware of these options.

get a ps3
you can install yellow dog linux so the ps3 can run as a pc too
ps3 is WORTH THE BUY!!!!
i'll list some of the reasons
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $599
60gb: $499
xbox 360(premium)- $399 (if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars)

I would say ps3 just because it is easier to use and pc are unrealiable- do not think i am a computer noob i have a 1000
dollar pc and ps3 and i do hav pc games and the in my opinon is the funnes t and has realy good tittle s commin for it ; MGs4, also it is known to run on a cooler and faster engine

Well, with 800 dollars you cant buy a really good computer so go with a PS3 or if you just want a decent computer then buy it with 800. I really love my computer and I could care less if I have a ps3 or not.

If you think you can upgrade your computer (new Graphic card, more Ram, bigger hard drive) I would go this way. Or you can save up the money and buy a whole new computer soon (next year). or just get a Xbox 360!

if ur a big video gamer...i'd get the PC bc i heard that the PS3 only lasts 4hrs b4 getting over heated...
