While most think it was an apple, the particular fruit is never mentioned in the Genesis account of the fall.
Although there was an actual tree in the garden it could well be that it could refer to it`s flowering buds or it`s berries as these are also known as fruit,perhaps these contained within them the knowledge of good and evil, placed within them to test Adam and Eve`s loyalty.

Common folklore is that it was an apple. The bible does not actually say what type of fruit it was, only that God had forbidden Adam and Eve to eat it.

It was a peach. Their talking snake kept saying to Eve "Here have a pesh." But she knew what he meant. Eventually she partook of a peach. Adam was not amused.
