Things too far away, like road signs, or the whiteboard at school, are blurry and I can't read them. I've never had problems like this before, but I'm only 13. My friend is getting annoyed with reading things out to me when I can't read them. Do I need glasses?

Not necessarily, although it's likely.
But you do need an eye examination.

13 is a very popular age to go short-sighted but there are other possiblities, such as ciliary muscle spasm from excessive closework (reading or computer games), which, if present, could respond to exercises rather than glasses.

At your age the odds of anything more sinister or serious are extremely low, especially if the vision is still good for near.

"Need" is a strong word.
Don't let anyone order you into glasses if you aren't bothered.
"I find glasses useful, sometimes" is a less pressured way of thinking about the things, should you turn out to have a distance prescription.

I definietely think you need glasses. Age really means nothing, b/c even little kids wear them nowadays. If I were you, I would go to an eye doc and get contacts if I didn't like glasses. I was 10 when I got glasses so I know how you feel, but you have to do what's best.

The best thing to do is to get them checked by your doctor, ask you parents to organize this for you.

Yes, ask your parents to make an appointment for you to see an optometrist in your area.
