i let my dogs sleep in my bed with me. u only get to live once. and honestly i cant sleep without little sammy at my side. now as for eating and bathing with my dog that is a definate no no. (except when he gets me all wet during his baths) while we eat sammy lays in his kennel and waits until we r done. he was never trained to do this he just probably thinks it is right. chase will lay at ur feet and wait for u to get done. but yes i do have my dogs sleep with my. i have really bad night mares and when i wake up it is really comforting to have someone there to calm me down. i dont know if he can sense when i am terrified but when i wake up in the middle of the night he licks my face and just lays there and takes it. if i didnt have a dog sleeping with me i would be devistated. we went on vacation this summer to a cabin in the woods and i couldnt sleep that night so in the middle of the night me and my sister drove the 5 hour drive back home and brought the dogs to the cabin. i am lost without my boys

My dog sleeps in my bed with me. As soon as she was able to control going to the bathroom at night my bed was her bed. I eat at the same time as my dog but never the same food or the same area. I am in the dining room and she is in the kitchen. I don't bathe with my dog because I like steaming hot baths and that is too hot for a doggie. My dog does come into the bathroom when I take the occasional bath instead of a shower and leans over the edge and licks my arm. I am big on hygiene but as long as my dog is fairly clean and smells ok I would rather have her sleep with me than anywhere else. There is nothing like waking up to puppy kisses in the morning ...much better than an alarm :)

Personally I enjoy the feeling of a nice warm lump on the end of my bed and to hear his snoring. Judge doesn't enjoy it quite as much. After the first two nights I snuck him into my room, he decided that when he's trapped with me, he likes the closet better. Go figure.
Other than that, normally he has a few select sleeping spots. For day time napping, he prefers this small chair in our Family Room next to the couches. I have tried to get him off it, but he's extremely stubborn. It started when I was sitting on that chair and I invited him into my lap. He realized that it was a perfect match and would jump on it whenever possible. Every time, we'd take him off, but he'd just jump straight back on! Eventually we gave up, and now it's his special chair.
The couch in the living room is favored when we're out of the house. Usually that's where I can find him if we come back during the day time or evening. It's comfortable, he has a nice view, and the minute we come home he knows and can come to say hello.
For the night time he usually sleeps by the stairs on the second floor, near the doors to my parents' room and my room. Generally there's a blanket there, but a lot of times he just likes the floor. It's carpeted and he can enjoy it. Also when we come back at night, he's usually there.

During the day my 2 dogs (male lab and female border collie) will nap outside, or on their pet beds in the living room. At night they are crated in separate crates in the guest room. They are both very nosy sleepers and both they and I get better sleep if they are in the next room:) They eat their meals from their bowls on the floor and I supervise to make sure there is no bowl switching. We do not feel them table scraps so when we are having our dinner then lay on their dog beds in the living room. As for bathing, sometimes I will take them (one at a time;) in the shower with me, but usually I just bathe them in the tub by themselves. Ahh, I miss the days when they were small enough for me to bathe them in the utility sink in the laundry room instead of bending over the tub and killing my back.

Sorry you've been sick! December 1st is Louie's first birthday so we're going to combine thanksgiving festivities with a little birthday celebration for him. There is a local specialty dog store in the area where we'll probably get a doggy cake or doggy ice cream for Sydney and Louie. They won't be crated because we're having a very small group here (only immediate family) and everyone loves the dogs and understands that they can't have any scraps :) Feel better and happy Thanksgiving!

He sleeps in a crate in the hallway which puts him in the dead center of the house and lets him see everything, including us in bed. He is never allowed on our bed. He also has a chair and ottoman in the living room because he's not allowed on the couch.
He eats breakfast as soon as Im done eating, then eats dinner once we're done eating. All of his meals are homemade, usually incorpating a bit of what we ate for extra flavor, and are served on the kitchen floor. He is usually crated while we eat in the in the next room.
Baths are separate, but in the same tub. He has a habit of thinking bath time is play time--me getting in with him would probably leave me bruised and broken, and its quite gross.
I would actually prefer he be allowed in bed for sleeping, but he's just too big and sheds way too much, so the wife doesnt allow it.

I know the people who believe in TOTAL control will disagree with this, but I allow my dog to sleep anywhere (except on my bed or the living room furniture) she chooses. She has dog beds all over the house (including my bedroom), but usually chooses to sleep alone. Eating and bathing with your dog? She eats on the floor and I typically don't. Bathing her is hard enough with just her in the tub - no, she would not want to shower with me.

I missed the shampoo question. I, personally, use a lot of cheap (Suave) human shampoo for an initial wash and then follow it with a high quality dog shampoo.
My dogs are allowed to sleep with me once they become trustworthy to sleep outside of a crate. Often they will sleep for a short time in the bed *IF* they are invited. My dogs are usually clean since I show them.

Shower with the dogs weekly, sometimes there are three in there with me, crowded but very effective, this way I only have them in there one day a week instead of more, I double up with the bath duty, I use malesab, paul mitchell, or suave whatever....even dawn for extra stinky dirty, if need be...
as far as sleeping, one sleeps outside on his cot or in front of the back door, sometimes I leave the door open and he still sleeps in the same spots.., the others in crates, other than the dirty cotton ball, she sleeps in bed with one of us...(no dominance issues with her)...sometimes one of the rotts will sleep on his bed next to ours, but mostly not because, my cat will not come in the room when they are there and Kramer sleeps on the bed with the poodle....
the shedders can never sleep in the beds...

my dog sleeps locked in the kitchen/laundry of a night time as he is a "pound puppy" and i am still entrusting of him with my things such as the couch - (marking them)
however i work a lot of night shifts and some times i do let the little guy on my bed while i sleep during the day - it's easier than hearing him cry and bark all day, it can be hard enough to sleep during the day
