You can't "make" anyone stay. The best thing you can di us have a conversation with her and tell her why you think it's not a good idea for her to leave for so long or tell her how you're feeling. I'm sure she'll talk to you and you will both agree on something. good luck! :)

You probably should have given us a little more info-not much to go on. If your mom feels that she needs to go away for a year-she more than likely feels that she just wants to go away indefinitely. Sorry, but people who feel this way don't put a time limit; they just want to be gone. Then again, there are people who say this just because things are too much and just need a little while to get their bearings straight and think about things. I know it's hard, be supportive, tell her you prefer that she doesn't go and tell her that you'll be home waiting for her. If she just does not want to be there any more, there really is nothing that you can do. Hopefully when she's been away for a few days, she'll come to her senses and come back; if she doesn't then maybe it for the better. Obviously if she feels she needs to leave, she is not happy. It's tough for her too. Be supportive. This is a tough position to be in. Good luck.
