To keep it clean, Band Aid brand Cleansing foam. It's very gentle, anti-septic and helps maintain color. I can't remember the name of the product right now, but there's a certain product a lot of tattoo artists recommend that actually draw pigment out of the tattoo as they're designed to draw infection out of a wound.

For moisturizing use lubriderm fragrance free lotion.Something like A&D cream is OK but it's very heavy and greasy and it makes a mess. Lubriderm lotion works just as well. Make sure you keep your tattoo well moisturized. Cracks in the scab will leave lines in the color. My boyfriend has tons of tattoos and his best friend is a tattoo artist. We spend a lot of time hanging out at his studio. They both swear by these products and wouldn't recommend andything else. I've seen tattoos over 4 years old that look pretty much as good as they did the day they were done when they were cared for using these products. They're cheap and readily available at any pharmacy.

A lot of products tattooists try and push that are supposedly intended specifically for tattoo care are a complete rip off. Tattoo Goo for example. They're usually regular, cheap lotions put in a different bottle and given a different name so you can be charged through the nose for them. Don't be fooled in to thinking you'll be better off using them. They're a scam and no way worth the money. Save yourself some money and go to Walgreens.

Tattoo Treatment Cream

The tattoo shop should provide you with tattoo goo or a&d ointment, especially after such an involved piece.

I generally use ointment like a&d the first day and then just a plain unscented lotion to keep it moist until it heals.

Some people are OCD about keeping it gooey, but that is no good for a tattoo. Tattoo goo also has a lot of chemicals and fragrance in it which can irritate people with sensitive skin. Just ask the artist. :)

There are lots of great products! There are ones that your artist will recommend if you call them up now. I bought mine at the tattoo parlour.(Zulu in Dublin) Piles ointment is meant to be good too. One thing you should NEVER use is petroleum jelly/ Vaseline. It might create a barrier, but it also can absorb some of the ink from your tattoo and damage how even the ink looks. Id also advise staying away from E45, my boyfriend used it and his colour is uneven on his half sleeve, I also used ot on mine one when I forgot my cream and it brought my skin up in red dots!

I prefer a product called "tattoo goo." But, if that isn't available to you, you should really contact your artist and see what they recommend. I've heard of people using everything from diaper rash ointment to vaseline. Each artist is going to recommend whatever they have found to be most conducive to the healing process. I like my "goo." It hasn't failed me yet!! I do know, however, that I have been told numerous times NOT to use neosporin or a triple antibiotic ointment. I've heard various explanations to as why, but none seemed truly valid. Anywho....

Good luck with the sleeve!!

Each tattoo artist has their own preference. My boyfriend is a tattoo artist and he recommends washing the tattoo with unscented DIAL antibacterial soap, and applying A&D (Diaper Rash) Ointment to the tattoo a couple times per day. Only for 2-3 days, and do not over-moisten it. Just apply enough to make it a little moist, it needs to dry to heal correctly.

DON'T USE ANYTHING PETRO BASED!!! NO Bag Balm, No Vasoline. The Petro draws the ink out. I used Lubiderm for my tattoo's. I heard that Tattoo Goo works great.

I recommend this cream called Udder cream (I think). It says Moo on the front of the bottle and it's used to hydrate your skin. It's also used for cows lol, but it works wonders on tattoos, trust me! When I got my first tattoo my artist recommended it to me. I've also used the hair product called Biosilk. Also...don't buy anything scented!
