there are some who believe that there is a "Higher Self" which could be considered a personal God figure, although the Higher Self would be just another aspect of the one universal God. This is actually a quite common belief among ancient religions such as Hawaiian indigenous religion, Native American religions, Ancient Egyptian, Sumerian, Vedic and certian sects of Muslums (mostly the mystics). Also a common belief among New Agers these days. its all a matter of perspecitve though..

karen- that wouldn't be the christian god.
But there are religious sects that believe that in a god or demi god that they prescribe to, when there are many out there.
Such as celtic paganism (or most paganism or wicca) there is a whole host of gods and demi gods that a follower can pray to for different things.
Now there is a school of thought about the traditional worship of the christian God, that he is a reflection of you. And in him you see what you wish to see. Much like in a good friend- where you may see them very differently than even another friend would.
As far as my knowledge goes- that's the best I can answer for you :)

Wow! It's not enough that mankind has already invented thousands of meaningless and obsolete gods and goddesses. Now you imagine each person should have their very own personal god? I see this as a giant step backwards and a dangerous retreat to the days when men freely killed each other over nothing but personal superstitions. No thanks, I want no part of your fantasy!

Jehovah God is available to all, but you must come to Him through Jesus Christ. The Bible says, I am the way, the truth and the life , no man comes to the Father except by me.

Bible portrays only two, and tells us to compare such:
- God on high, in plural divided heavens: awful lawful
- God in heaven, higher than the heavens: grace us
"Comparing spiritual things(laws) with spiritual(grace)"
Sadly, many mix, rather than compare, Law vs Grace.
Result: "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me"
Believers: do about as well as devils: believe one God,
and get fear(hath torment) from such Law: James 2:8,19
Repeating Law is Law Law.
His Grace is NOT Law Law.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
