Well 100% of the Veterans of the US Civil War are dead, as are 100% Veterans of the Spanish-Mexican Wars.

99.9% of all World War 1 American Veterans are dead.

And I am sure there is some government agency under the Defence Department who can fill in the figures for WW2, Korea, Vietnam, etc .. etc..

Anyone who has been sworn in to service is a veteran. You need to restate the question. Are you talking about the war in Iraq or those who are dead that never went to war what? (My daughter swore in for the Marines but didn't finish boot camp because of injury. She is considered a veteran by the government.)

You need to rephrase your question and be specific. war dead? combat fatalities....Technically most vets are dead. Anyone serving in the military from the Revolutionary War on is considered an American Vet.
