Part of their religion is spreading the their faith, that's why they're called Jehovah's witnesses. I've found that the best way to ward them off is to answer the door naked and offer them a beer.

First off to Tiscpa, you have been grossly misinformed, yes we believe that only 144.000 go to heaven, but no it does not depend on how much money you raise. The reason is becuase these people have already been chosen. Also when you go to a kingdom hall, where we congregate, you can sit anywhere. You should go to a kingdom hall and get your information from a real Jehovahs Witness instead of a former Witness who is probably just mad because they didnt get their way. The plain fact is, they go door to door, because they love their nieghbors and believe that it is their purpose to teach any one they meet, as Jesus commanded them in the bible. So even though they get ridiculed and doors get slammed on them most of the time they will continue to try, if you wish not to be approached just let them know your not interested at all and they will leave you alone, it is your choice whether you listen or not. And as for the raising of money, they dont have a set amount to raise, yes they ask for donations from interested people and even then you dont have to give anything its a donation, books arent free, yet we give them out at no cost and mention the fact that if you would like to donate anything, anything, that would be great......

I am one of Jehovahs witnesses. We go door to door to preach and to help people learn about the bible and the future of the earth. Revelation 24:14 Reads " And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. " Here is a link to the official website of Jehovahs witnesses. This link will take you to an article I think you will find interesting and answer any questions you may have. http://watchtower.org/e/jt/index.htm?article=article_07.htm

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Send them my way. I enjoy blowing their minds. They leave my house complaining that their head is spinning.
Anyway,
Them coming to your door has something to do with the 144000 that goes to heaven.
What had been explained to me is that, they have a pyramid type of set up to reach the 144000.
The more money you raise for the church the closer you get to the chosen 144000. The more dedicated you are to the church the closer you get to being one of those select.
You have to look inside the church also. The more dedicated to the church you are the closer you are allowed to sit toward the front. The least dedicated you are the closer to the back you have to sit. Non members at the very rear.
Look at it this way:
Non members have to stand up at the back during services. When you become a member you can sit at the back. Once you become a member and start sitting at the back, you'll need to get more involved with the chuch, but the more money you raise the closer you can move toward the front. Let's say you're single and have moved to the rights to sit in the middle. Now, you meet and marry a non member and believer. You're new non member spouse have to stand at the back, while you have to move back to sitting at the rear. Of course that depends how much money you have raised. If none or very little you have to stand up in the back with your new spouse, but if you have raised an acceptable amount, then you may sit at the rear. Then you have to start over at raising money to move forward again. Regardless how much you raise, you can't move no closer than the middle until your spouse becomes a member and involved. Until your new spouse becomes a member and help raised money, you'll just be left out of having even the slightest chance of being one of the select chosen 144000 to be allowed to enter heaven.
That's the way it was explained to me to help understand why they go door to door.
It has to do with working your way to being one of the 144000 to be chosen to enter heaven.
Let's put it another way:
If you were told that you've better go door to door or else, what would you do? Would you be scared and go door to door anyway?
That's what was explained to me by a former Jehovah witness, who's mother was a devout member

I have invited them in, every time they turn up. I have been successful every time so that:
1. At least the same ones dont come back again.
2. They go back with some knowledge from me too.

The best result I got was from 2 guys who came around once, and at the end of our discussion, went back with a promise that they will learn original Hebrew language so they can read "The original Bible" and they dont have to believe their own version of "The Translation".

They are not necessarily bad people, infact all the ones I have spoken to, have been pretty polite and reasonable. Except once when two ladies turned up, and ran away as soon as I asked them to "exchange" the ideas rather than giving me a one way information. They told me they didnt have a lot of time hehe.

They come because their church makes them. Invite them in next time. Everytime my family sees them, we talk to them. They won't come to our house anymore. The majority of them DO NOT know the origins of their sect, nor the trail of false prophecies that never came true only to be dismissed as 'new light" that the Watchtower has made. Everytime we see them, we let them speak first, then show them using the bible and their own literature against them to help open their eyes to the fallacy of their sect. They're answers are always the same, very vague and generalized "doomsday" threats, such as "Jehovah is only going to call 144,000 Witnesses. Don't you want to join us instead of going to hell for all of eternity?" When we ask them for proof of the JW's chosen place among the 144,000 they bust out the Watchtower magazines, yet cannot justify it in the bible.

My father in law recently converted to Jehovah's Witnesses in order to impress an older female JW he was dating. He has informed us that he can longer be a part of our lives because we are not JW's. He signed his new Chevy Silverado over to an elder of the Kingdom Hall in lieu of tithes. The woman he was dating cheated on him with another man, so he is trying to get her disfellowshipped from her kingdom hall. Since then, our family has researched the JW's like crazy. I have since learned that this familial isolation is nothing new to the JW's.

Like I said, they don't come to our house anymore. I miss those poor buggers.

Go therefore and make disciples of all men, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That's why they go door to door.
