I am rather curious as to what other parasites dogs can pick up, besides fleas, ticks, and mites. I noticed something on my dog the other day but she is not showing the signs of fleas (scratching and self-mutilation), mites, and no ticks. Are there parasites that are attracted to dogs or insects?

I live in a semi-city environment but there are parks and unmowed areas in my neighborhood. Tecnically speaking, it is called a temperate woodland area. What should I be watching out for? Are there insects that inhabit neighborhoods that are pests to dogs that have the potential become a problem? Also, are there any good prevention ideas that help me and my pet out?

That's pretty much all of them - well, ringworm too. This is a type of fungus, characterised by patched of baldness and kind of a red ring. Some types of mites cause mange, and not all types of mange are itchy.

Not all dogs itch when they have fleas - like humans they have differing levels of sensitivity. Did the thing you saw look anything like this?:

Sort through your dogs fur, or comb it and look at the fur on the comb - look for black specks, These are flea dirts which you see much more often than the live fleas.

I would go to a vet if you think your dog has parasites - get them identified and treated.

Parasites are attracted to dogs for their hair and habits. Sometimes though the scratching comes more from dry skin on a dog. Dogs come with many ailments that are the same as humans. They need the same care.

Depending on your enviornment, I'd say fleas #1 and ticks #2.

flies can actually be very bothersome to outside dogs but fleas and ticks are more likely to be found "on" a dog. I can't think of any others really.

They can get things such as worms (hookworms) in their feet. It would really depend on your area and what is in your environment.
