I quit after 5th grade! I have been a leader for 5 years and my daughter is in 6th grade. I really want to quit but there is no one to take over and I feel bad leaving the girls, my daughter said she is finally ready to quit. I figure this will be my last year because I cant imagine girls wanting to go on when they are in jr high.. just curious! : )

I'm a girl scout leader for my daughter's Brownie troop and your situation is quite common. In fact, over 65% of girls quit by the time they are 12. I don't know what they are doing wrong with the program to cause this, as this phenomenon isn't happening in boy scouts.

In any case, you are entitled to quit leading the troop if you don't want to do it anymore, but you can't do so last minute. Prepare the girls and their mothers for the change. It could be another mother will step up. Otherwise, the girls can become Juliettes (independant scouts) or join other troops. Perhaps you can find another troop leader that would be able to incorporate them and attend a meeting or two so the girls can make a decision. Don't just assume the girls want to quit. Give them the option to continue if they choose to.

I quit after 6th grade. Back then, 6th graders were still considered juniors rather than cadets, but I understand now that they are cadets. I did actually attend the bridging ceremony to become a cadet, but when I actually started 7th grade I just decided to quit. School was getting more demanding, and I was a dancer so I wanted to be able to focus on school and dance.

I quit after 6 grade because my troop did not continue. I am a leader for my twins troop now (5th grade). I think they will stay because I will. All the girls can't wait to be Cadets and Seniors because they see the older girls and what they are doing. If you and your daughter are ready to quit I think you have the responsibilty as their leader to contact your Service Unit manager and try to place the girls who want to stay in other troops.

I quit when I graduated form high school. I loved being in a leadership role! It was so rewarding! I quit selling cookies when I was in 6th grade. And throughout high school I attended GS camp as a camp counselor. Now I can't wait to have a daughter so she can join. It's up to you though. Have you tried looking for someone to take over? Maybe one of the other moms would be willing to do it.

I recall being a cadet (which was in Jr. High). However there were only a handfull of us. I have to ask is your daughter ready to quit because she knows you ARE? Perhaps she hears you talking about quitting. You need to quit IF you don't enjoy it anymore. The older the girls get the tougher it is to keep them SETTLED into girl scouting activities. They actually grow into "leaders" themselves.

My daughter's 11 (that's year 7 in the UK) and she decided she didn't want to be a Brownie any more or move on to be a Girl Guide, so she's now a Boy Scout which she absolutely loves!

7th grade because we didn't have a leader after that year.

I honestly had more fun being older than when I was little and in brownies the trips and activities get better. Like we went to Disney and Epcot, and a 3 day jamboree thing that was a load of fun.

I sit here answering questions with Girl Scout material all over my desk - Im registering girls for this years Girl Scouts. I find it interesting how many girls quit because the adults quit. We will remember this when we hit the end of this year. Most of our girls will Bridge to juniors this year.

Sixth grade was my last year. We all bridged to Cadettes and then that was the end. I would have continued but my troop leaders quit and I didn't want to start over with a new troop.
