Are atheists looking to argue or looking for answers? Alot of them say they are trying to enlighten everyone else. Hey it's America. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion but there is no need to trash people for their beliefs. Opinions are welcome but go to a different subject topic if all you want is to belittle people for their beliefs.

Why did you address this to the atheists?

Most of the trashing of people here is done by believers.

It seems to me that you've been here for exactly one day, and you've asked three "questions", two of which amounted to "How dare anyone disagree with me?".

In fact the Christians here actively invite criticism when they go out of their way to insult others, and particularly when they go out of their way to lie about atheists (and others). If you want Christians to be treated better, you need to get Christians to behave like adults here. Have you noticed how little "trashing" the Buddhists get? Or the Hindus? Or the Pagans? It's because they don't go out of their way to trash others.

I guess, you're newbie. You think you've got it all figured out eh.. Let me tell you one thing. If anyone is about trashing, it's the Christians who trash the atheists, islam, and other faiths.

The only thing atheists do here, is retaliate. Because like most of us, we can't take it anymore of the B.S that Christians try to shove down out throats.

We've heard enough of, 'oh, accept JC or you will burn in Hell' and 'I'll pray for your soul'.. pfft!

If you're saying there's a Freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Why don't the Christians just leave us the hell alone.

Atheists do not in anyway belittle people's beliefs anymore than Christians belittle other people's beliefs.

Stick around some more, and the truth will dawn on you.

Christians, do most of the bashing.

I agree with Scott M

1) I would humbly point out that this is not America. If you have your Y!A settings on 'all English questions' you are going worldwide;

2) I quite agree, there is no need to trash people and sometimes there is rather too much of that;

3) Is it a problem that there are 'a lot of atheists' here? A lack of belief in a 'god' does not necessarily mean one is not 'spiritual' or has no interest in such matters. And since there is an 'S' in R&S, I'd hope there's room for all.

Who said a atheist cant be spiritual? This is Religion AND spirituality. And most forms when you are asked for your religion Atheist is an option!
I am not an atheist~ but the have the right to be here as much as anyone else.

Ps you belittle others beliefs too....you did mine.
See?This is what you said to me, a Pagan.
You are playing with something that is seriously harming your God given soul. The devil is deceitful and very clever. Fooling around with witchcraft may seem natural and beautiful but spiritually you are opening the door to serious harm. Psychics, witchcraft, and any cult or occult is dangerous and has the veil of fun and excitement. Please be aware of this. God bless.

"Opinions are welcome but go to a different subject topic if all you want is to belittle people for their beliefs."

Ahhhhhh, this could apply equally to religious people here who belittle the beliefs of others, or lie about them.

If applied impartially, I'd like it, but from what I have seen here, it wouldn't be, because it's a matter of individuals and individual choice. And some folks (of any religion, or none) will choose to belittle others.

EDIT: Well, having now read some of YOUR posts about Paganism, I'd say you have no room to talk, dearie.

Many people ask this question, but what you fail to notice is that if there was a section just for atheists, theists would also try to belittle them. We're all the same except for a few enlightened souls.

I'm sure everyone has different reasons, so I'll just share mine. I feel threatened by the Bible-thumping Christians in America.

I feel that those people (and there are many) who refuse to acknowledge science and history, who support laws which restrict my rights, who are intolerant and abusive of those unlike them, who equate the word "atheist" with words like "rapist" and "murderer," and who are driven to all actions (be it worship or sin) by their emotions rather than their rational brain -- I feel those people are American Taliban. They are unstable and fearful at the core, and I think they would love to hijack the country and ram it into their idea of Christian Utopia.

But a deep-seated fear of the world cannot be placated by controlling the environment to outlaw sex, gays, cursing your parents, and shellfish. That is why extremism in all religions knows no bounds. The human spirit, which is far too magnificent to be shackled by such petty doctrines, continually violates them and re-invokes the fear in those too afraid to confront the world as it is. This fear causes them to dig deeper, and hate more fiercely, those who do not agree with them...

We are not as comfortably far from stoning adulteresses and burning witches as it may seem.

Therefore, the best way to confront an enemy is to understand them. I come here to try to make sense of the fundamentalist beliefs -- which seem so bizarre and irrational to me -- in the hopes of finding a small speck of common ground in which to make peace.

Bravo! Stop trashing those poor innocent Christians, Atheists! They've done nothing to deserve a little prodding and teasing. Not like they've organized and killed people for not agreeing with them or anything. It's not like they forced people to convert under the influence of torture and the threat of death.
We live in a society today where we should be tolerant of all beliefs, to the extent that we never say anything remotely negative, or recount a historical event which casts them in a negative light about any religion, ever. Because religions deserve respect. They've never done anything but good in this world.

Some are looking to defend their beliefs. The religious have a track record of accusing atheists of being immoral and corrupt.

Some are looking to ridicule the ridiculous beliefs of others. Because it's funny. And beliefs in things without evidence is fair game for ridicule, be they Zeus, Santa or Yahweh.

Some are looking for support for their lack of belief. Letting go of the giant comfort blanket that is a god can be a difficult process, especially when you are raised with religion.
