There is no guarantee. But it can be treated, and there is a chance that your baby will outgrow it.

Talk with your son's pediatrician about medicines, and meanwhile try to keep the house very clean- Not an easy proposition while caring for a small child, I know.

Good luck.

I don't know if this would help. but i was born with severe asthma. I was hospitalized every week because i would turn blue from lack of breathing. The doctors told my mother that I would be like that all of my life or I might actually die in my sleep before I turned one. we lived in NY at the time and he told her that if we moved to a warmer climate away from the city I would probably get better. Im Puerto Rican so my mom took me to Puerto Rico. And my asthma went away. it didn't come back until i cam back to NY at 14 suddenly i was being hospitalized for asthma again. I had to be put on steroids and used an inhaler until i was 18. i still get small attacks sometimes but iv e strengthened my lungs enough to live a normal life. now im 32 and I haven't had an attack in 3 years. and that was because i ran 4 blocks to catch a train in 20 degree weather.

depends what type of asthma. when i was born, my lungs weren't fully developed, and according to the doctor, i had asthma. as i got older, it turned into only exercise-induced asthma and whenever i got sick. i'm 16 years old and i haven't used an inhaler for asthma since i was about 8. according to the doctor, it's gone. there is no cure for asthma, and typically it is for life, but only time will tell.

I've talked about this on Yahoo answers before, but my son does NAET. It's a natural way, acupressure, to get rid of allergies. He started when he was three. But I know you can do it on newborns. Do a search under NAET, google or yahoo. And they will list practitioners in your area.

FYI: my son was on allergy pills every day, an inhaler, and they were about to switch him to steroids at three years old! And because of the NAET, we're only on the allergy pill at this point, and eventually that should be gone too! I'm so thrilled with this. Supposedly, it doesn't work for everyone. But I was going to try everything I could to keep my child off of medication. And I couldn't be happier!!! It makes them very healthy too, so he rarely comes down with colds, etc.

Do you smoke?

that will make it worse even if you smoke outside. Particles come in with you.

Some kids "grow out of it". Ask your doc
