I am getting a tiny teacup yorkie, it has already been vaccinated. How much will it cost to get her spayed/nutered?
And how much does a vet cost per year for everything?
I live in Canada, in the Toronto area.
Be detailed please!

you cant give an exact amount it will cost unless you can see into the future and know what problems your dog will have worming and flea treatment is a must and vaccinations, buy pet insurance then you wont have to worry about large vet bills
spaying goes on weight you would have to get costs from a vet as practices charge different amounts

Okay first of all, stop listening to these people telling you that there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. There actually is no such thing as a "teacup" dog but i am thinking of getting a chihuahua and i have spoken with about 10 HIGHLY recommended breeders who all hate the word teacup but at least using it gives people an idea on what size of dog you are looking for no one said anything about it being a real definition of a breed or not and anyway that wasnt your question. I have checked with the vet earlier today concerning my chihuahua, i live in Newfoundland and here an annual vet check up is $50, spaying costs $213 which includes bloodwork and a shot after surgery to ease the pain. They will spay your dog if it is over 6 months of age. The bloodwork is to tell if all the organs like the liver etc are working properly because that is the primary organ used to filter the anesthetic out of the blood for the effect to wear off your dog... If the liver is not functioning normaly, they will not place your dog under anesthesia. As to your dogs vaccinations, you say it has already been vaccinated but you better make sure that it was more than once... A dog needs to be vaccinated once at 8 weeks, again at 12 weeks and again at 16 weeks. Then it will need a booster shot one year after the last vaccination (16 weeks). Then after that it will only need a booster once every 3-4 years. You can stop vaccinating your dog with boosters once it reaches around 7 because then the vaccines should have built up the immune system enough to last it for the rest of it's life. Also, your dog needs to be de-wormed. It will need to take one pill every two weeks until 3 months old, thereafter it will only need one pill a month. I hope i answered your question and provided you with a little information whether you didn't or already knew it.

It really depends on the health of your dog. If you buy a puppy that has genetic problems, then it can cost a thousand or more.

If you have a healthy puppy, the first year you are looking at about $500 - $600. (vaccinations, dewormed, spay/neuter, microchip, dog license) That DOES NOT include toys, beds, food, treats, collars and leashes, shampoos, grooming tools, crate or extra cleaning supplies to clean up accidents.

After the first year and you have all the supplies you need, then vet costs should be about $200-$300 per year. (providing you have a healthy dog) and a monthly cost of around $50-$75 for food, treats and any little extra items you may need. (more shampoo or cleaner, etc.)

I must add that NO, there is NOT such a thing as a TEACUP Yorkie. Yorkies should only come in one size. It's the breeders that give them the name "teacup" and usually is because they are the runt(s) of the litter. Please check breed standards from Canadian Kennel Club.

NOTE that is DOES NOT say "TEACUP YORKSHIRE TERRIER"

Unless the dog is over 4 months old I seriously doubt it has had all it's vaccinations. It should have a series of three distemper shots, rabies shot, when you bring it home it needs to see a vet and you will have to have a stool sample analyzed and since the "breeder" is selling teacup yorkies which aren't really a breed I am guessing it will need to be dewormed. On average the first year vet bills will be at least $500 plus you have to get heartguard pills to protect the dog from heartworm as well as a flea and tick medicine which are each about $60 a year. After the first year expect to pay at least $200 a year for more shots and vet visits, these are just routine any injury will cost alot more.

No such thing as a teacup anything - you are buying a runt, undersize, likely unhealthy, so your vet bills will be enormous.

Adopt a yorkie from a breed rescue, you will know the health of the dog if it is already grown and the foster home has vetted and neutered it already.

By the way, "teacup" is NOT a breed of yorkie, the AKC standard for yorkie is for all yorkies - small dogs already. You are falling for hype from an unscrupulous breeder, a made up term to sell runts for lots of money - beware!!!

There is no teacup anything. Teacup is just a term given to runts, and they likely to have health problems that come with being too small.
Prices vary by region, and depend what happens to your dog. The vaccinations you need to get vary on the region.
You can't predict if your dog will get in any accidents or get sick, so you can't figure out how much that will cost until it happens.

Call around to see how much spaying costs. The shelter or other clinics may do it for much cheaper than at the vet.

Well for a normal dog, the vet isn't that much per year.. But when you buy a petstore or a backyard bred dog, your vet costs are going to be much higher.. Given that there is no such thing as a teacup anything.. You can count on huge vet bills..

Get some pet health insurance.. It will help with all those huge health vet bills you are going to have.

First, there is no such thing as "teacup" its just the runt of the litter. Second, you just purchased a dog that will probably have several genetic problems.

Spays run around $200. First vet visits are usually around $100-150. Altogether, the first year of the dog could be anywhere from $500-1000.

You really should have thought about this before getting the dog.

Vet usually charge per pound for spay. Small dog like yours would be about $60 to spay. But if you add in a full blood panel which they will ask you. Its good to do to see if your dogs inner organs are all working properly and they can forsee any problems by this test. Good to do for tiny dogs. Our rescue does not do the blood test on puppys.
The blood test here in the states runs about $140.00 so, in full around $200 if you go the bloodtest route.
Now if your dog is retaining any puppy teeth, spay time is the time to have the vet extract those theeth. So's down the road, you do not have to put the pup under anesthia again. Dangerous for tiny dogs. If any toothe extract, it would be more.
Also if your pup has hind dewcaws. I'd opt to have them taken off. They can get hung up on things when they jump up. and can get ripped out. More money. But if all is done under the one time anesthia. Less than two or three surgerys.

it's hard to say as each vets office has their own charges., But if it's a "teacuup" sorry no such thing but usuallyu a runt that is not going to be very healthy costing you more for vet visits.
since it's a so called teacup it will more than likely need numerous vet visits.
Good luck

Well my pup didn't have any shots and I just got done with the first 4 and it cost me $294.00 I got her final 3 in a week and fixed a week after that which the vet told me will be about $224.00, annual check up for me cost about $110.00 but if there are any issues or problems it will cost more also think about what the cost of food and grooming are going to cost as welll as meds, like fleas and heartworm also take in to effect if the dog gets hurt or sick... its like a child it will take time and energy to house break it a big resposiblity and I would hate to see another dog in a shelter because there owners could care for them so please take your time and be sure you are ready to own a dog. Im in Buffalo NY not to far from you but I dont know how things are priced in Canada I would call a local vet and see what there rates are and go from there take care and good luck
