I'd say it really depends on the age of the child. If it was a disciplinary action by a parent, I'd say no, but you might want to seriously reconsider your method of discipline, because that isn't the best way to go about it.

If the person you are asking considers that child abuse then yes and if they don't then the answer will be no. Under the law physical abuse can be anything if it's reported and threatening. You'd at least get looked into by CPS if you were reported for slapping your child.

I'm assuming you want the law on this, and not our personal opinions, so I'll just leave mine out of this. I was trained by the local CPS (Child Protective Services) staff for my job. Technically you are only allowed to use an open hand to slap the butt. If any welts are left, then it was too hard and is illegal. They talked about slapping the hand or face and said if they got a call about that, but there were no marks then they wouldn't do anything about it. One interesting fact, all members of the CPS staff who did the training said they were completely against any form of spanking or hitting.

I'll have to agree with lane p. Slaping is one thing but beating on a person is totally out of the question. There's no reason to beat on anybody unless you have mental problems or somethin else crazy. And if it's a parent or guardian than that's different too, but even they don't have any right to beat on anybody.

Is slapping your spouse, friend, teacher, boss, employee, or any other adult abuse? There's your answer. A child is not any less of a person than these people.

yes it is......slapping any one is abuse, and shows lack of of control on the part of the abuser. There are other ways to handle a situation besides slapping. I know because i have worked with 200 lb men who are aggressive and, can do it with calm and logic. You are talking about mere children.........don't teach them to slap back

My father used to slap me in the head and it hurt like hell after? He used to kick me?

It's really SAD at how much children are treated like second class citizens. It should be ILLEGAL to inflict even the smallest amount of pain on ANYONE.

I think this is personal opinion but I would never slap my child. If you cant control your child with your voice, you arent doing your job.

If you are a parent or guardian, a little smack on the bum is okay, but beating is abuse.
