The best and only place to locate government grants for college is at the official FAFSA website. It is called the Pell Grant. It is based on a percentage formula taking into consideration your income and savings along with your income and savings and your family size (those atttending college and out of college). It can also bring the work study program (for cash), need based scholarships from the college's endowment fund, and federal student loans. This needs to be completed during your senior year of high school in January, early February, or by the earliest financial aid deadline of the schools you applied to for admission. This can be done and should be done well before you get your acceptance letters. This will need to be completed every year until you graduate from college with your degre. I will include some other free resources to locate college tuition money.

First, your high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships which are easier to get than nationally based ones. They also have a list of any state grant or scholarship programs available too for college.

Second, the local public library has book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free scholarship search websites. They offer a customized search based on the information you enter into a survey. I recommend applying for every scholarship you qualify for no matter the amount. There is a scholarship for anything including wearing duct tape to the prom.

Good luck!

Check out Federal Student Aid Web Site or FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

I suggest you explore all federal funding and grant options at the Federal Student Aid website http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/

You may also want to read the Handbook of the Pell Grant -- this is an 86 page document that contains everything about the grant
http://ifap.ed.gov/sfahandbooks/attachments/0203Vo3MasterFile.pdf

Or you can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/gtepfpg.pdf at 1-800-433-3243 and ask them if there are any programs for you

Aside from FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and Pell Grant http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.html , you may want to explore private foundation grants

Also check out Fastweb http://www.fastweb.com

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." You may be able to find grants from private foundations.

I go to Southern New Hampshire University, currently I'm doing it online. When you apply for financial aid, if you do, the financial aid office at your school will take care of it . Call the financial aid office of your school. You sound like you can get a grant, I'm pretty much in the same situation as you are and I get $600 in grants per semester.

Go to the FAFSA.gov website. The FAFSA is the government's form that gets you government grants and loans. Talk to your guidance counselor about it if you have questions. They will be able to help you a ton!
