I'm gettin a new kitten and all the rest of my cats have always gone to the bathroom outside as soon as we got them (which was when they were adult cats and already trained to), but I don't want to get a litterbox now just for one cat, when the rest go outside. How can I teach my cat to go to the bathroom outside?

People calm down, I'm not leaving the kitten outside by itself, I'm gonna come outside with it until it gets about 8 or 9 months old, and can go outside on it's own to go to the bathroom. And the cat isn't staying outside always, just to go potty!

Put the litter box by the door. When you see your kitten going to the bathroom, let her outside. She'll get it!

Just get a little litter box and forget about it. When the kitten is older you can just take the litterbox and dump it in a corner of the garden and the kitten will go there. She has to get used to using the litter box reliably first. I'd rather get a litterbox than keep letting the kitten out (and risk a pee spot on the floor if you're not quick enough). Little kittens "go" a lot.

This kitten is too young to go outside right away. You have to keep it indoors for at least 1 month, preferably 2 months, to get used to you, the other cats and to be able to go out without danger. Then you will gradually let it outside under supervision, and then he can go outside alone. When he manages that you can stop having a litterbox, and he will start going outside, but for a couple of months you must get a litterbox.

I'm not sure, but when my mom go a kitten that was born outside the kitten had a few accidents. When we got a litter box she just atomatically started going in it. I guess if you let your kitten go outside with your other cats she could learn from them.
People I'm sure the questionor wants to know how to train the kitten to go outside. He isn't saying he is going to kill it or let it be killed by letting it outside. Yes 5 weeks is a little young, but what if there is no mother any more. THINK PEOPLES!

5 weeks is too young to be outside... (well of course they shouldnt be out at all ideally) but 5 weeks is WAY TOO YOUNG to even be away from mom kitty.. (7-8 weeks is better) anyhow.. 5 weeks old WILL NOT be fully vaccinated and as such it can easily get very sick from even short trips outdoors.
Harness train the kitty or built a cat section out of 2x4's and chicken wire with a window access for it... (so it is safely confined and not pooping in neighbours yard - angry neighbours often poison cats, shoot them, or "remove" them)
OR simply get a litter box - non-scented clumping is preferer by cats but only for 8weeks and older...silicone litter is 100 % odor free!]
The MAIN reason why you have a litter box is so you can see abnormal stool changes as this is often the first sign of illness in a cat.. if they poop outdoors by the time you notice something wrong it maybe too late... if you feed a good quality food - they poop WAY less than if on grocery store or wal mart level food.

A kitten that is only five weeks old is too young to be separated from its mother. So return in four weeks or so when the kitten will be suitable for adoption and ask again. Expect negative responses, as the outside world is rather hazardous for kittens.

I think that is so cool that your cats are trained to go outside I would love to be relived of litter box duty. i think you may have to get a small litter box for now -she will follow the other cats sooner or later
