Is it ever acceptable to conform to society when previously held biblical beliefs are proved false or just no longer socially acceptable? Take for example, arranged marriage. Is there a commandment in the bible that says christians should no longer practice this? Or did you just conform? What will happen when it is no longer widely acceptable to persecute people because of their sexuality? Will you conform or stick to your biblical beliefs?

Excellent question!

The Bible ought to be like Wikipedia, with God as the editor-in-chief. God would post new pages dictating new doctrine to His children, and they would be given free reign to edit the thing, and God could occupy His time removing the vandalism and restoring his Word from backup.

That way, what God says would stay God's word, without any chance of manipulation or perversion as many have done by interpreting the words of the static Bible to their own ends or the ends of their conservative, hateful values or qualms about human behavior.

Most people already ignore the rules in Leviticus regarding shaving (19:27), tattoos (19:28) or strangers (19:33). Perhaps the bible is already considered outdated by many? After all, living by bronze age rules isn't easy in the 21st century.

Or is it that people just like to pick and choose, as they have always done? Curious that the proscription against shellfish (Lev 11:9) can be ignored, but for some reason Lev 18:22 must be obeyed? Isn't that hypocritical?

Riddle me this: When did it *ever* say in the Bible to participate in arrange marriages or not? I've never seen a single whisper of a mention of that. I know that arranged marriages were the cultural tradition at the time the Bible was written but I still haven't seen a single commandment for or against it.

When did the Bible *ever* encourage persecuting (or making fun of, or anything like that) *anyone*? Again, I've never seen anything like that in there. If you can bring up even *one* commandment in the Bible, other than commandments that could only be carried out in a theocracy in which God was the ruler (like Israel at that time) or commandments that have specifically to do with the temple, etc, that again, no place to carry those out --- that has somehow been outdated, then we'll talk.

You may feel that it is outdated to accept God's Word at face value in terms of how He feels about particular sins. That is your total right. But again, it's not like God wants or commands us to do *anything* against that sinner (since we are all sinners too!). HE is the judge, not us. It is our job to leave all that stuff up to Him.

the bible can't be out dated. arranged marriage is in other beliefs, it was never part of christianity. we don't persecute people we try to help them get on the right track. we are the ones who are persecuted, you are an example of this. and we will stick to our beliefs because society has always hated christians for being right.

I believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, which is as relevant today as it has always been.

I've never been a fan of persecuting people because of their sexuality, but I do believe that homosexuality is prohibited by the Word of God.

As a Christian, I believe that it is my place to point out that homsexuality is contrary to the Word of God. It is not, however, my place to judge people based on their sexual preferences, or discriminate against them in any way shape or form.

Arranged marriages are not encouraged or condoned in scripture. The Bible came to us when the fullness of time had come to write down and compile the legacy that God had given us of HIs wisdom and life.

Truth is timeless.

No it cannot. God said, "the heavens and the earth may pass away but His Word would not." God also said, "Scripture cannot be broken."

I'll stick to my biblical beliefs.

The bible began as fiction and has only grown to be absurd and idiotic as we emerged from the bronze age.
