You don't need to go to a doctor for fleas bites. They won't hurt you, they'll just itch - even if you're allergic you'll just get kind of a skin rash, but you won't get diseased or anything! They look like small red bumps and often appear in clusters, usually around the ankles and often on the torso too.
The way to save yourself from flea bites is to treat your dog - with a product from a vets, like Frontline or Advantage. You also need to spray your house as this is where most of the fleas are living, and why you're getting bitten. Don't bother using products you can buy in stores, they don't work, that's why they're cheap.

If you are allergic to flea saliva, you will see little red marks, usually perfectly round, itchy and angry looking. Ankles are the prime target area! However, if you AREN'T allergic, you could still have been getting bitten, but, without an allergy, you will see NO signs of bites, but might still have felt the little blighters feeding from you.
Not much the doc can do though. Use a cooling, or tea tree cream to take away any pain/het and treat all pets and your home (most importantly), to make sure you kill the eggs, the larvae and the adult fleas.

It you got bit by fleas, believe me, you'd know it. They hurt when they bite! The bigger problem is the fleas in your house. Get your dog on a once a month flea prevention like Frontline. Treat your house with a flea spray at the same time (to speed up the process of killing fleas). You should be flea free within no time.

If they are in fact flea bites, they usually they show up as tiny red bumps. No need to worry, they'll go away quickly (day or so). Clean the spots with rubbing alcohol, and you'll be fine. You might want to get some flea treatment for your dogs to avoid that happening again. We use Frontline on our dogs.

generally,if people are being bitten by the fleas then you have a flea population that is too large to be satisfied with the dog only so they have moved on to people. the fleas prefer dog.... you need to treat the dog, the house(the entire house) and probably the yard. the products from the vet office will do the best job for you and the vet tech will give you the info you need.

you can spot flees only if there are lots...
if you don't wanna go visit the vet,
you could just buy a flee soap. it's safe to use weekly even without the vet's prescriptions.
prescriptions are usually given anyway when the dogs' cases are really bad.
in this case you're sure you're dog has no flees anymore

When my dog had fleas, I could see little itchy, red bumps on my feet and legs. Do you see any of those?
