WORMS, in older dog.????????

Question

i have had my dog for 13 years. had him dewormed as a pup, now ay !# he has them, WORMS!!! he has been acting strange. and this morning when he did a dump, there were worms in it, and a couple hanging out his rectum!!!
this is so awful, and i don't have the $ to go to the vet right now. they were kinda small worms, and really gross!
how did this happen? especially, after all this time? someone HELP, need suggestions for this. thanks.

You are dealing with Tape Worms if you can physically see them in the poop.

This is a very inexpensive treatment, but if there are tape worms, you may also have other worms such as wipworms, hook worms, round worms etc. The dog will consume more food then normal because the worms are stealing nutrients.

I would suggest a triple wormer and if you don't have the $$ for a vet, you can find these wormers at most any pet store or even online.

Don't delay, worms cause your dog intestinal upset and an overall feeling of blahhhh.

Do you still have the worms? If you've been to your Vet within the last year, you should be able to just take a stool sample to your vet and a sample of the worms and get some dewormer without having to take your dog in. Dewormer is usually not very expensive. I don't know what to tell you about how your dog got the worms. Is he on Heartgard every month? that prevents the dog from picking up worms in his environment. Unfortunately, dogs can get worms from a variety of different places and things. Call your vet first, maybe you can even make payments, but don't wait to treat your dog, huge parasite loads can lead to big problems for your dog. Good Luck!
If it is tapeworms, your dog got them from fleas, and needs a once a month flea medicine like advantage or frontline to prevent recurrence.

Dogs can get worms at any time......You should deworm your dog every year....Worms can bring down a dogs health very fast and even kill them. You dont have to go to the vet right away...Go to the local grocery store or pet shop and purchase a good wormer, read the box and see which one is the most aggressive and kill the most variety of worms they are sold over the counter. Follow the directions and keep tabs on your dog .When you can get to the vet do so. Your dog need a checkup.

small white worms the size of rice that expand and contract are tape worms and need meds from the vet to get rid of....the OTC stuff does other worms but not those. spaghetti type worms are round worms and are probably what your pup was wormed for years ago....tape worms happen when your dog eats something that contains tapeworm segments....can be a dead animal,grass that had segments on it etc.

There are lots of kinds of worms adult dogs can get. Some can be caught from walking in an infested area and some from flea infestation, for example. If you can't afford a trip to the vet, you could try the pet store and sometimes even our grocery store's pet area carry worm treatments for dogs. I know Hartz makes one brand. They go by weight usually. A trip to the vet would be best, but I have used these over the counter treatments with success in the past. Yes puppies usually have round worms which are passed to other dogs and well as humans if they come in contact with the feces, you can just worm him as you worm the puppy so he doesn't get them
