You are talking about your resting metabolic rate. The absolute number is dependent upon your age, sex, height, weight and activity level. A number of websites contain formulas that will calculate it for you (or a rough estimate of it!). Try http://www.shapeup.org/interactive/rmr1.php
You will see that "doing nothing" usually burns well over 1000 calories per day. So adding some activity and decreasing caloric intake is how to lose weight.

Use the calculator below. The amount of calories you burn is based on your age, sex, level of activity and weight. This calculator takes all of that into considerations.
Once you play with the calculator a bit, you'll see how it's possible. I burn about 1700 calories per day at rest, and about 2300 a day when I exercise. It can be done! and you can do it!

People who plan their weekly meals tend to be successful at losing weight than those who don’t. Plan your dishes to add healthy carbs such as fairly sweet potato and wholegrain pasta, green vegetables and lean proteins, buy the many ingredients in advance and don’t be tempted to consume out or order in.

Suck this in. Consciously hold in and contract your abdominals while you’re walking, sitting pictures desk or making the supper. This will help to strengthen your stomach muscles and your core, and enable you to get one step closer to any flatter stomach.

Think about what you can to your diet, not what we must take away. Integrate delicious veggies into your meal, rather than serving them quietly. Not only will they offset the fat as part of your chicken or meat, but the phytochemicals in fresh produce are which may prevent diseases.

You are referring to basal metabolic rate. Multiply your weight by 10, and this should give you a rough estimate of that number.
