Iran like many other country's wants a nuclear capacity in order to join the club of nations that have it. I for one an not too worried about anyone getting nukes. It is going to happen sooner or later. I think we should concentrate on keeping nukes out of private hands and spelling out just what the great powers will do if someone uses one in a regional conflict. I think nuking both sides might be effective.

The problem is that nuclear power is extremely dangerous not only in the fact that it can be used to produce weapons but also to the nation that is running a power plant. If the reactor core become unstable and explodes it could have a extremely negative effect. The solution is renewable energy sources such as wind power and other developing technologies that are just as effective and pose no danger.

Same reason we do, Power. Not only is it clean, efficient, and cheap (in the long run it is), It also gives them status as a nuclear power, thus lifting them from the 3rd world country rank. It also makes them a threat, and given their history, they like that. Oil causes polution, and will eventually run out as a natural resource. Nuclear Power is clean, and produces more energy then oil or coal 10 fold.

The severe oil rationing caused by inadequate local refining facilities in Iran would point to an energy deficit. Nuclear power would be one way to alieviate the problem. I believe the only way this will happen peacfully will be Iran allows unrestricted access to inspectors from the IAEA.

They've been talking about nuclear energy for when oil runs out.
WE've been talking about alternative forms of energy for decades but doing nothing.
Track record on terrorism aside, i'd say Iran makes more sense than we do.

Unfortunately Ahmadinejad's idiotic ramblings have caused detriment to Iran's right to nuclear energy. If people would just see him for the powerless dweeb that he is, then more people would see that it's the right of a sovereign nation to be able to produce nuclear energy. Also who are we to provide nuclear weapons to their neighbors and expect them to sit back and relax. If nuclear weapons are destructive and evil, then they should be viewed the same way, no matter who has their fingers on the trigger.

Yes. They do. Estimates show they will be out of oil sometime around the year 2020. But, what they don't need is atomic weapons, since they have no clear chain of command and system of controls on the use of those weapons.

Needs no.
I wondering why Greenpeace the rest of the envorimentalist are not all up in arms about a nuclear power going up in Iran.
Yet if you mention builidng a nuclear power plant here they would be all over it demanding it be shutdown.
