It borders the Bronx, not upstate and not "in the city" , although some people downtown or in Brooklyn would consider the Bronx to be "upstate"

Yonkers is a city in Westchester County, NY just over the NYC boundary line in The Bronx at West 263rd Street.

just north of the Bronx. Maybe 10 minutes by car
