Whenever my cat plays she starts panting and making noises that sound like she's wheezing or growling silently. She's a grey tabby, 7 months old, we just adopted her a few weeks ago.

I took her to the vet a week ago and he said she's probably getting over a cold but since she doesn't have any other symptoms I shouldn't worry

When she starts doing it I usually stop playing but she's obviously not tired because she'll chase after me and jump on my leg.

And she does it at certain times and not at other times. Example: if she jumps off a chair to chase a toy she'll do it, if she jumps off a chair to go eat then she doesn't do it

Should I keep playing with her when she does this or give her a rest? Does anyone else's cat do this? Should I call the vet (It's hasn't gotten better but it also hasn't gotten any worse)

Give her a rest and call the vet and ask if she could have asthma. When we got one of ours she was 9 months old and would suddenly stop mid-play and lay down panting with an open mouth. This is NOT normal for a cat. The vet diagnosed asthma and had her on prednesone for a few weeks, which did clear it up completely.

Check to see if her gums are pale when she does this, that would indicate not enough oxygen reaching her tissues.

That is actually pretty common and you have nothing to worry about. If your cat gets tired they will stop playing.

Sometimes when a cat grows up with a dog they pant like the dog does just because the dog does.

I used of have two cats that panted and they were barking and panting just like my dog. My dog would purr and pant just like the cats. That could be what is going on with your cat.

She could also be panting just because she is getting hot. in that case all you need to do is let her have a little break to drink some water and after that she will be just fine.

You should see another vet if your is not helping. Something is clearly wrong. Even cats getting over a "cold" do not usually do that.

Time for a second opinion!!!!

Sounds like your cat could have a deviated septum..You should definitely take her to a different vet. If she does have this problem she will need surgery....if it's not that bad and isn't getting worse I wouldn't worry too much...surgery will be pricey!
