It's been a common myth that some anti-war folks spit on soldiers returning from Vietnam, though no evidence or photos or video has ever been shown to prove this event. Regardless, wouldn't Limbaugh's attempted smearing of veterans be an equivalent to spitting on soldiers?

I personally think this is not the way to behave if he "supports the troops."

Now I know this mere question is likely to upset the unthinking types on Yahoo! Answers, but I urge you to post some kind of link proving you've done research to prove Limbaugh's lies that he was referring to only one soldier, etc.

Your reference is Media Matters? Try getting the exact transcripts instead of using Hillary's front organization. It's readily available on Limbaugh's website to anyone that really cares to find it. Plus, I have heard the tapes as well.

Limbaugh has done more for the military than you could ever imagine.

And, FYI, Rush was not referring JUST about Macbeth, it was within the context of a larger discussion about "phony soldiers" who portray themselves as being soldiers (but aren't), and other soldiers who misrepresent their experiences within the military (including telling of "atrocities" that never happened). THOSE are the phony soldiers he was referring to.

And speaking of spitting on soldiers. First the Viet Nam incidents are NOT myths. I KNEW military members who got spit on and otherwise harassed. AND, Project Pink just recently had members in an airport in California within the last month to harass, and yes spit, on Marines returning from the Middle East. I bet you won't find THAT on Media Matters.

BTW, Answerer...Limbaugh gives 100s of thousands of dollars to charity every year and raises even more through his charitable works. Some of his charities include military charities, as a matter of fact. But he also raises monies for other organizations. So before you criticize the man, learn about the man.

I thought your question was a good and valid one to ask. I don't have the answer regarding Limbaugh, but I was witness during the Vietnam war to many soldiers being spit at, called all sorts of names, and in general, harassed as they returned home.

Once, when the airlines were on strike I was trying to make it back to Massachusetts to visit my mother in the hospital. I had to take a train that was full of soldiers on leave. I saw first hand, the spitting, etc. There was a great deal of hostility going on during that time period all over. The country really was divided. Some protested quietly, others violently. Many colleges and school were also set on fire at the time.

I have no photographs, just the memory of what I saw as a young teenager.

I'm not a Rush fan, but from what I've learned, the soldier Rush refereed to was proved to be a phony.

Apparently this guy washed out of basic training and now he's claiming to be a Iraq War Vet? Rush called him on it and now all the biased Media Matter types are jumping all over Rush.

What's funny is the Democratically controlled Congress approved additional funding for the Iraq War last week. Why isn't that being reported?

Is the Rush bashing being driven by a wag the tail agenda?

I am not going to comment on Limbaugh since I have no idea.... but when you call the military being spat upon when returning from Vietnam a myth.... I must take exception. I was a young Marine returning from Vietnam... on crutches... in uniform. I went to the curb at the San Francisco Airport to take a break prior to my final flight home. I was called a baby killer, a war monger and spat on by a group of people. That was not a myth.... but an insult.

Welcome home Marine.... some of us hate you.

There are a few soldiers that claim to have been in the service of our country, and as everyone knows that is who he was referring to.

NO, he was not spitting on anyone.

As for someone getting spit on when returning from Vietnam, my brother was one that could tell you about that.Called a baby killer was another insult.

He served over there and shed blood over there. We lost one over there as well. His name is on the wall.

My brother loves the Vietnam people and he said they helped our troops a lot.

I wish people would have a little more respect for others.

Media Matters, that you refer to was founded by Hillary Clinton. Do you really think that is a good source for the truth in not only this, but any issue?

I wonder, do you think proclaiming that the troops are breaking down doors in Iraq and terrorizing women and children in the night is support? Do you think that claiming that the troops are ineffective is support? Do you think proclaiming that we cannot win is support? Do you think calling the troops, baby killers, torturers, rapists and murders is support? Do you think claiming that Iraqis were better off under Saddam is support? Do you think claims that we are only making matters worse in Iraq is support? Do you think claiming that our military consists of a bunch of losers who cannot find a real job or succeed in college is support?

If so, I understand why you do not think Limbaugh's statement is support.

Geez, Rush like most of the National Socialists uses character assassination against anyone that disagrees with him. They have only one agenda and that is to help members of their constituency. Take a look at how Halliburton, Alturis, Lockheed etc have done while these folks controlled all three branches of government. They remind me of the Wizard of Oz, as Toto pulls down the curtain, we hear him saying "ignore that man behind the curtain'

After a while things begin to suffer from paralysis of analysis and just go around and around like a broken record until it finally just gets worn out and falls apart. It's like taking the same dead horse and beating it for a week, a year, five years, until there is nothing left but dust, and then the beating still goes on and on with out end.

Actions speak louder than words, I have been a soldier for 6 years and done 2 tours in OEF, and OIF. I read his Limbaughs remarks and to me he was making fun of one poser not a SOLDIER.
