That would involve leading from the front. Something your average politician isn't known for. They prefer the safety of ivory towers where they can safely hold their finger in the wind and steal your money without repercussion.

Politicians want to lead by example but they really can't even if they wanted to. Being in the public eye, the only significant moves they make are the ones that make an enormous difference which is hard to do. It's like having them save a baby from a burning building. The acts we think about are more moral and personal in character, which in the world of politics do not translate into acts which the public will see as significant because the law itself is a process and a system they are bound by. Also, some politicians want to be good leaders but the system of government is too complicated and complex to have their acts of charity and goodness resonate and stand out among their peers. And as always, some politicians are driven by greed and corruption, making the system work against itself. In sum, politicians have to be seen as a collective group working together in order for anything good to be seen and for any change to be significant. Individual acts by particular politicians would only fade into acts of the greater majority of the government.

In America we elect the best liar who has the backing of the major corporations and the rich. No longer do we have a true representative of the people in office, for most Americans are not rich and powerful, nor liars.
So to expect the politicians to be a role model or some hero is a joke! Many of them do illegal drugs, extort, bribe, cheat on their spouses, or have some sort of sexual perversions. They put on this big act like they are a patriotic average American full of charm and charisma. Granted there are a few politicians that are not like this. And I truly believe those few are all that hold this nation together. But most are spoiled rich kids that have no clue how it is to be a average American worker, house wife or student. This is why they have to spend millions in the media to con us.

Because politicians don't truly want to lead. Politicians crave power and nothing else (money is an afterthought). They will say and do whatever they have to, to gain and keep power. Douglas Adams once said " Anyone who is capable of winning a political office should never be allowed to have it."

They do. That's why this country is full of pedophiles, wife beaters, alcoholics, liars, cross dressers, scam artists, drug abusers, adulterers, prescription pill poppers, tax evaders, bullies, profaners, war mongers, homosexuals, greedheads, and cheats. -RKO- 10/08/07
