hi jonathan...

A church is a group of believers in Jesus Christ, associated together, under Christ, for His purposes.

In Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible the English word "church" is derived from the Greek word kyriakon, which means something belonging to the Lord.

However,"Church" in the New Testament, renders Greek ekklesia, which mostly designates a local congregation of Christians and never a building. An ekklesia was a meeting or assembly.

hope this can help...

The Greek word 'ekklesia' which comes from two words 'ek' meaning 'out' and 'kaleo' meaning to 'call.'

Theologically it has been equated from the New Testament passages, originally written in Greek language, as the Church (though the origin of the term "Church" is the Greek root kyriakon [from kyriake, kyriakos; kyrios; kyros])[3] and also as the Body of Christ, a view which reflects a deeper Spiritual and invisible dimension into the use of the term Ecclesia.

It's the people.

The word "ekklesia" comes from the Greek and means "calling out." Very few people call out to buildings.

Romans 1:7
To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, the called saints. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

1 Cor 1:2
To the church of God which is in Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, the called saints with all those who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus in every place who is theirs and ours

The church of God. Not the church of Cephus or Apollos or Paul or of any practice or doctrine or place, but Of God. IN spite of all the division, sin , confusion, abuse of gifts and heretical teaching, the apostle still called it " the Church of God" because the divine and spiritual essence which makes the assembled believers the church of God was actually there. Such a spiritual address by the brother Paul was based on his spiritual view in looking upon the Church in Christ. Such a simple address alone, brother Jonathan should have eliminated all the division and confusion in both practice and doctrine that was evident at Corinth and that is so prevailing today amongst Christian brothers and sisters.

Ekklesia is the " called out ones" the church.. this is not an organization but the Living Organism which is composed of Christ as the Head and the Church as His body.
