i love her to death, she's an awesome mother-in-law.. but she wants me and her 2 daughters and her to all get matching roses tattooed on our hands. roses of all things (like the most common tattoo ever) and right on our hands for all to see. i'm all for a free tattoo and i don't really mind the matching part as long as it isn't out there for people to ask about because it would be kind of embarrassing to tell people about. does anyone have any suggestions of something we could get that would still be cool (i'll never get a rose tattoo) and a place to put it that wouldn't be so... exposed?

i'm deffinitely not getting the rose tattoo on my hand just because i don't want to hurt her feelings. i just want to have something else to suggest to her before i tell her i don't want it. i was asking if anyone has any ideas about what to get and where to put it. anyone have any experience on matching tattoos?

If it were me I'd just be truthful, tell her you're not happy with either the tattoo idea or the location and unless you all come up with an idea you're all happy with, you wont be getting the tattoo. Since it's not something you can just take off after a few months, and it's on your hand, so it's not even as though you wont be reminded of the fact you hate it everyday.
I think this is a situation where honest really is the best policy.

I'd also be very wary of getting a rose tattoo on your hand, some employers are a bit funny about visible tattoos (mine will not allow my tattoos to be visible, they are easy to cover up so not an issue but they actually said at my interview if I had tattoos they could not be on show) so you could even use that as an excuse, it's a pretty good one!

I completely agree to the idea of tattoos, and I am planning on getting a few in the future. Not all are flowers and skulls, you know. I think most are expressions of yourself, and it's great to have art with you forever. It is a beautiful and magnificent art. BUT, there are people like you who are too worried about other people and what they choose to do with their bodies. Just chill out and let people live their lives the way they want!!

Ok you just have to tell her in a way that is not going to offend her. Tell her you'd rather not have a rose tattoo for one, and another you don't want it on your hand, that you'd rather have a tattoo in a more discreet location. I mean it is your body and you are the one who has to live with this the rest of your life.

That is sweet. My sister in law and I got tattoos together. We each got a different dragon on different areas. They have a lot meaning because we got them together. Maybe you guys could each get the tattoo you want on the area you want and just having them done together will give them meaning. Best of luck.

Maybe you could get it somewhere else, somewhere you could hide it easier. You could lie and say that visible tattoos are not allowed at your job, etc. I am not sure what to tell you. It sounds like you are in a bad position.

Pick out the tattoo you want and where you want it and show it to her. Also use the excuse it's not professional on your hands and could cause problems at work.

get her to go first - i'm betting she'll back out but if not
how about little pink pigs with wings - 'when pigs fly'
or how about a little lady bug each?
or how about suggesting you each pick a cartoon character you like? like tweety bird, or tinkerbell? or?????? then everyone gets to show their individuality!
i agree with the hand thing - don't want them on my hands - but what about your ankle or the side of your calf or the back of your shoulder.
good luck with it!
